re: Anyone else been disproportionately summoned to jury duty?
Posted by SouthsideMike on 7/9/26 at 7:06 am to StringedInstruments
Served on a jury last February in federal court. Felon in possession of a firearm. Ended up in a mistrial.
Got another summons about five months later. Here (Mobile, AL) you don’t have to serve if you’ve been selected the previous two years. Filled out the summons and let them know I just served. January of this year, I got another one and informed them that was three in less than a year (all federal court). Got an email from them about two months ago saying I wasn’t in the pool for selection. Not sure why I got that email. Seems that they can hardly wait for my two years to be up, so I can serve again.
Got selected for district court jury about a year before serving on the federal side. They put us into groups on Monday and sent us home. Had to check the next several days, but never got called in and they released our group.
Only other time I served in jury duty was about thirty years prior. Doctor knocked up his much younger patient and a twelve man jury took about twenty minutes to come to the conclusion (with DNA evidence) that he was the father. There were a couple of twists and turns in the case, like the young lady was also sleeping with the doctor’s son.

He ran the Senior Bowl down here in Mobile. I thought he did a great job. Kinda perfect for the role he has now.

Looks like I did what a number of others have done. Bought some on the way up and also on the way down. Got my average down to just under $3.20 with several more purchases this year.

As a recent cord cutter, it’s one of the main channels I watch. MASH, Andy Griffith, Hogan’s Heroes, Carol Burnett and a few others are on in the evening. If you’re a night owl, Twilight Zone, Perry Mason and Alfred Hitchcock come on after 10:00 central

Greenwood the course by the zoo?
We’ve got 15-20 each coming to our tournament (in Mobile) this weekend from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.
Always try to get a few players to bring some boudin to put on the grill with the rest of the food.

A good friend of mine makes over $200,000.00 a year playing disc golf. The top few make a million plus just on their top sponsor.

My father was a gambling man. He had the giants in that game and talked about it for years.

Chad? Thanks brother, it means a lot. When I talk about Louisiana disc golfers being such good people, we have one right here. This man brought the biggest iron pot (full of pastaIlaya) I’ve ever seen to our tournament.
Michael Munn and his staff does an absolute fantastic job with the Big Rip. If you want the feel of a big time tournament down here, that’s the one. If you want a cabin, you better be quick.
We know Sylus and his father well in Mobile. Has a ton of talent and so young. Look forward to watching him along the way.
Matt should be back later this month. I’ll have to ask if he knows about the rant.

Yeah Matt’s having a great year. Not a bad time to be in negotiations for a new contract. I know he would like to stay with Westside, but there’s other companies calling.
We’ll probably have a watch party if Matt’s in contention Sunday. His father Jim was our mentor, so the whole Orum family means a lot to us.

Yeah he’s talking about the big rip. Would’ve been there, but my nephew got married last Saturday.
I’ve been running tournaments in Mobile for 19 years. We always have a big group of players from Louisiana (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, etc) come for our Southside Smackdown. Always get them to bring some boudin. Such good people. Matt Orum from Mobile is 11 time champ.

Not sure how old most of you are, but I’ve seen many kkk members in my life. My parents bought a house in Tillmans Corner (Mobile County) in 1976. For years, they would parade up and down the streets in trucks and trailers.
A few klansman tortured and killed 19 year old black male Michael Donald in 1981. They then hung him in a tree. The ringleader lived less than a mile from my house. The guy had a big burnt cross in the lot next to his house for years. He got the chair.
Now it’s been decades since I’ve seen anyone wearing those hoods. shite was way different back then.

My mother was a finalist for teacher in space. Went through all kinds of training.
She had a news crew in her classroom watching it live.
