Running Tracks in BR

Are there any running tracks in BR that can be used on the weekends? Catholic and BRMHS have fancy fences around theirs now.

Multiple Flights around Europe

Posted by cherrycoke on 1/11/25 at 5:50 pm
Going to a wedding in Split, Croatia later this year for a family friend. Will be there for a week or so, but since we are already so far from home, we want to make another Euro stop. Thinking France countryside or bouncing around Germany.

How do you go about booking flights? Getting to Split will probably be 3 flights (starting from NOLA) with the connection locations not mattering. But if we want French countryside, we would have to get to Geneva and drive. But will
I need to make sure we get back to the same major hub we arrived to Europe in? Or how can I get another major hub to leave Europe from? Is it a bunch of one way flights and not book anything as round trip? Just looking for advice.

re: Gift Card Consolidation?

Slight update- I tried to buy a $50 Amazon gift card with a $50 AMEX gift card. Amazon is not letting it go through due to a “Payment revision needed.” I guess they don’t like the fact I am bringing the AMEX gift card balance to exactly $0.

Gift Card Consolidation?

Posted by cherrycoke on 8/13/24 at 7:07 am
Work loves to give away gift cards. $25 here, $50 there. I have a stack of them. Most are Visa brand gift cards, some are AMEX. Most gas stations and restaurants won’t take them unless they have more money on them than the total of the transaction. This leads to a bunch of small dollar cards.

Is there a way to consolidate them into one gift card? Or maybe add them to a “wallet”? Maybe I create an Amazon gift card and apply all of them to that total?

New tub- need opinions

Posted by cherrycoke on 12/18/23 at 6:47 am
We are about to remodel our hall bath, including replacing the not in great condition alcove tub. We are trying to determine if we should go with an acrylic/fiberglass tub or step up to cast iron. We have heard through friends that the new acrylic tubs aren’t very strong and can crack and some say they are susceptible to staining. But looking at the cast iron tubs, it seems like they all don’t have great enameling with streaks, runs, and an orange-peel texture.

What are the H&Gs thoughts on tubs?

re: Church pews

My parents church wanted an update so they looked up the costs to have the pews re-upholstered. It was actually cheaper for them to buy brand new pews for the whole church instead of the labor to recondition the old ones. The old fabric was stapled AND glued down, and the finish needed a nuclear bomb to help remove it.

They ended up selling the old pews to anyone who wanted one. It was a nostalgia thing. Problem is who could fit a 30’ long bench in their house.

ETA: this was BRLA.

LA 2023/24 Hunting Season Dates

I searched the WLF website, but couldn’t find the 23/24 hunting season dates having been posted. Does anyone know the dates? Duck and Deer. Thanks.

I think they should extend the race by 3-5 laps. Moving a stopped car (unless wrecked) is usually handled through a safety car, so why make a change to what works just because we are deeper into a race. The only thing they would have to do is suspend the minimum fuel requirements as teams would dip below that mark.

A/C Register Repair Escutcheon?

Posted by cherrycoke on 7/21/22 at 10:39 pm
Our house was remodeled before we bought the place, and frankly, the sheetrock work is not that good. The area around one of the a/c registers is cracking and crumbling. I would like to put an escutcheon or plate between the register and sheetrock to hide the cracking. Is there such a thing? I think it would only need to be 2” or less on each side. Or is this my million dollar idea?
Not sure what you are referring too by the term “break” - you referring to the control board in the air handler and/or thermostat?

The break where I cut the wires in the attic. I had to run new wire from the thermostat to this point.

Great videos. I will definitely follow their instructions.
Since last night unfortunately

Update-I broke my thermostat wire…

Posted by cherrycoke on 7/11/22 at 1:33 pm
I made a mistake. I was trying to reroute a coaxial line in the attack and inadvertently cut the thermostat wire to the unit on that side of the house. I didn’t have enough wire to just splice the two ends back together, so I had to run new line from the thermostat to the break. Once I reconnected the 5 wires at the break and to the thermostat, I expected the unit to power on like normal. Nada. I took the batteries out of the thermostat for a bit thinking it needed to reboot and nothing. The thermostat looks like normal and will even click from time to time, like it is about to turn the unit on but ultimately nothing happens. I checked the fuse in the blower housing and it appears to be good (not discolored like a car fuse when it blows.) I flipped the breaker off and on in an attempt as well.

Any suggestions on what else I can try?

UPDATE: it was the fuse. I checked for resistance on the old fuse and it came back dead. A trip to the auto parts store, about $5 later, and we are up and running. Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions. Y’all are amazing.
Check this video out from BamaBass on YT. This is part of his pond build series. He uses a 2 part mixture that gels and clogs up the holes in the dam. I don’t know how expensive it is, but seems pretty easy to use.

Guilty of a Crime- Lawyer Question

Posted by cherrycoke on 9/16/21 at 11:14 am
The vanlife thread got me thinking. If in fact the boyfriend committed some crime, he lawyered up, and then told that lawyer everything truthfully, does the lawyer bend the facts to make the client look innocent or does the lawyer have a legal responsibility to speak the truth? Does he defend the client at all cost? I can’t imagine criminals are that smart to come up with an airtight story of innocence and then stick to said story for the rest of their lives. OJ Simpson comes to mind- his lawyers must have known the truth, but still defended his innocence.

Can someone explain, in basic terms, what a lawyer is supposed to do in these situations?
To this point the lots are all random. I would like to correct that. I want the software to include logic so each roll of product will have a different lot number. The lot number can be deciphered to determine the day, month, year it was checked in, the warehouse it was check in to, what number roll it was that day, etc.
For this exercise, I only need labels. We have warehouse logistics software with RF scan guns. Everything we do, sans lots, is barcoded. This software is to fill that void. It will create lot numbers and print corresponding label with barcode. The lots are simply an input into the greater system.

Thermal labels can be wicked fast. Much faster than inkjet label printers. We use a variety of Zebra brand printers, which is a pretty common manufacturer. Sounds like they might be in the Python libraries.
My company sells product that we assign lot numbers to. This product is cut off of throughout the day based upon orders so we need to keep track of quantity on each roll using lot numbers. The lot numbers are basically to tell which roll is which and nothing to do with date stamps or manufacturing lots.

Currently my receiving guys make up lot numbers on the fly because the numbers themselves don’t matter (I plan on changing this). I want to code a piece of software that can spit out lot numbers, random or with a meaning. This would be hooked up to thermo label printer so each roll of product can have its own lot code.

I know nothing about coding. Literally nothing. I think it might be fun to try to take this project on myself. What coding language should I look in to for a task as this? This will be Windows based and shouldn’t need to be integrated with any other software, other than the printer driver.

Or better yet, is there something already out there that can do this?

I’ll share by performance bonus and royalty checks with you.

Granite Tabletop Support

Posted by cherrycoke on 9/13/20 at 7:37 pm
The wife, no pics, found a wrought iron coffee table that she wants to use for our outdoor seating area. It doesn’t have a top, so she want to get a remnant piece of granite. The rectangular tabletop support is currently 21”x51” OD made up of 2” wide, 1/4” thick strips on the 4 sides. Will I need to add extra support for the granite or will it be able to support the top as is? We are thinking a 3cm slab. Thanks

re: RF controlled Light Switch?

Posted by cherrycoke on 8/12/20 at 7:38 pm
Thanks CAD

I was thinking about something in-line with the current wiring that would tell the other circuit/ switch to activate. I really hadn’t thought about the home automation side off it, only because that would be my first time delving into that voodoo.

RF controlled Light Switch?

Posted by cherrycoke on 8/12/20 at 10:13 am
We have floodlights on the back of our house that only light up about half the yard. I have a shed in the back corner, with power, that I would like to install a floodlight kit onto. I would like for the the lights on the house and the lights on the shed to come on at the same time with one switch. I see RF controlled switches out there, but that means pressing a button or another switch to get both sets of lights to come on. Is there a way to have wired lights and RF controlled lights to work in tandem on one switch?
