re: Help with glucose levels
Posted by Cali 4 LSU on 5/9/25 at 10:37 pm
Any blood sugar >30 rise in your level is considered a spike. This is especially bad if it is outside of your range (>120). The more glucose molecules floating in your blood, the more chance of oxidizing fats in your blood. This contributes to atherosclerosis. Diabetes/PreDiabetes is one of the major factors contributing to cardiovascular disease.
Also, how does it make you feel? I felt absolutely terrible when my sugar spiked. Furthermore, it causes insulin spikes and then a subsequent drop in sugar, which usually leaves you hungry and, thus, more snacking.
Tip: after you eat things that generally spike your sugar, go for a 10-15 min walk/bike/movement that is moderate in intensity. You can help control those spikes. Personally, I would try to avoid the spike altogether by avoiding the foods that spike you.
Good luck!

I find my respin button to be exactly the same....is there truly a difference?

I haven't. I think he newer model lets you do a half blend instead of doing the whole thing. That may prevent the freezing. Really ruins the leftovers.
I used to mix only half at a time but things settle at the bottom when it freezes so I mix the whole pint every single time. I don't find that it ruins the batch at all.

I made a yogurt base once. Because yogurt is so tangy, I try to make it as if it is a cheesecake flavored ice cream so:
Yogurt
Half & half
2 scoops vanilla protein powder
fruit of choice
Blend it all and freeze it overnight.
Sometimes I make recipes with coffee, half & half, & either vanilla or chocolate protein powder.
When you blend it in the creami, run it through as many times as it takes to make it creamy (& not crumbly). Usually 2-3 times. If you want it like soft serve, add a splash of water (1 tablespoon), and mix it (usually at least twice).

I have one & make "protein ice cream" quite frequently for the hubby & I.
It is LOUD but so what. Also, it's easy enough to clean but you must be careful to clean it thoroughly or you will get a sour milk smell. I hand wash it and use the dishwasher, whichever is easiest at the time.
The thing I don't get is how y'all use nasty-arse pudding mix!? I use jocko molk (vanilla, chocolate, or banana) with a little vanilla extract/powder and that's it. Sometimes I add a little fruit, peanut butter, or cocoa powder but not much. I also mix & match, for example: chocolate banana.

Curious to see the reaction of everyone from the guy calling her out on the lies.
I watch Anton almost every night. This is from his show Monday night. Anton is all MAGA, was on Dr. Phil and makes tons of $$. He has a show on Monday where he lets anybody on (liberals, democrats, republicans, independents, etc). I found him during the run up to the election and so enjoyed him schooling all these lefties. And no, he didn't fall for the Rittenhouse BS, he looked it up in real time because he wasn't familiar with it so he called Jas out on that falsehood. Here's the full show:

Ohio dem thinks Elon shouldn’t be in there. Agrees with deporting “bad” illegals but not the hard workers (they should get citizenship). Didn’t like the dogs & cats comments T made.
Didn’t like that dems did not stand for kid with brain cancer.
Yall…that’s gonna kill the dems!!!
He voted for Kamala.

R from Michigan (elderly woman) said the dems were embarrassing. She likes that SS won’t be taxed. Likes what T has done….wants to give him time. Says media doesn’t give him fair shot.
Didn’t vote for Slotkin. Some of her points were valid but you can tell she doesn’t care for her.

Black woman from Missouri liked that T addressed increased crime. They (her family) are struggling to make it and she loved that economic prosperity was a focus. She is Indy & says her black friends are looking at what party serves them best. She voted T in 24 but didn’t vote in 20 & was appalled by Trump in 2016.

D from Penn did not like dems not standing for child with brain cancer or guy going to West Point. He thought Slotkin made good points. He wants people to work together.
He said dem leadership in last admin was so poor. He knows lots of dems that voted for T

R from Michigan doesn’t like immigrants being called racist/murderers. Doesn’t like corporate welfare. Doesn’t like polarization and echo chambers. Ok he’s just rambling now.
Oh, Slotkin is his rep.
He voted Slotkin & Kamala…:he is NOT a R but claims he is ??
Doesn’t believe in to the river to the sea being a call for hate

re: Treadmill/weights at home or gym membership...wwyd?
Posted by Cali 4 LSU on 2/14/25 at 7:47 pm
I built my house with a room designated for my "gym". My only regret...should've made it bigger!
Background: I've labeled myself (in the past) a "gym whore" because at one point in time, I had a membership to 3 gyms. One was due to tuition deduction (mandatory). Anyway, I loved going to the gym.
BUT, I love my home gym more. I have a commercial-style bike, bowflex (which is the hubby's), & a small weight-set for the "classes" I take via a Les Mills subscription, which are the exact same classes taught at the gym.
Either route, it doesn't matter as much as your discipline to use it. Both can be a waste if you don't use it. Both can be a benefit if you do. It's preference.

Can you people start defining what this actually means?
You're right....technically the really bad stuff is "ultra-processed foods". But what I colloquially mean is:
1.shop the perimeter of the grocery store/avoid center aisles where the "processed" food lives
2. foods with 5 or less ingredients/foods with more than 5 likely have chemicals, stabilizers, emulsifiers, etc
3. foods with 1 ingredient (ie whole foods)/see above
4. avoid added sugar (which is in processed foods): most people walk around with sugar spikes (thus insulin spikes) and never even know it until they have pre-diabetes or diabetes
5. oats=not good for anyone with insulin resistance, especially if they do not contain the whole oat with the outer fiber shell

You’re inflaming stupid women with hubbys paycheck to blow.
Ah-hem, you are posting to a woman who has, not only hubbys paycheck, but her own to blow. And I'd GLADLY do it for better health. But I don't claim the "inflaming" or "stupid" part of your post.

Like....15 years of it.
I have hyperPOTS though so never passed out. Chronic Fatigue, IBS, & Fibromyalgia have all been part of it. It's a joy/sarcasm.

Great analogy.
I always tell people that when you eat:
-processed foods (as they oxidize easily)
-inflammatory foods
-foods that increase blood sugar levels
especially in the presence of high blood pressure, nics & scraps occur on the inside of arteries. As a result of these injuries, the body uses it's natural repair system (cholesterol) to "spackle" that area of vessel. In construction we sand down the spackle once it dries but if that doesn't happen in the vessels, it closes in the lumen. If we have less LDL (bad cholesterol) then there is less chance of a "bad" spackle job.
But yea...inflammation is the underlying culprit that our body is reacting to considering all cells in our body are made of cholesterol. So there is an immune component to all of this (think foam cells, etc).
There is nothing wrong with achieving healthy cholesterol levels but the inflammation should not be ignored.
