I’m a boomer. My dad was a B17 crewman…engineer and top turret gunner…in the 8th Air Force. And he completed all of his missions. His older brother was a B25 pilot in the Pacific. He did not survive.
Like most WW II vets he would not talk about the war until I got him to attend the grand opening of the WW II Museum. As the grand opening was approaching, I repeatedly suggested that he attend. But, he kept refusing. Finally, I registered him and bought tickets for him and my mom to many of the events. Once all these vets got together, they started talking and opening up. Sometimes very emotional. It was like pulling the plug on a damn. It was a catharsis. He wrote me a couple of weeks after the grand opening saying it was one of the best experiences of his life.

I haven’t been to the festival, but I have been to Austria and the scenery is indeed beautiful.

I grew up in a small town in SW La. We had permission to hunt on 4 farms within 15-20 mins of our house. Each farm held quail and we would flush coveys every time we went. There were also more fence rows and ditches and canals with really good cover along the banks.
re: Am I bonkers for considering throwing small crickets with a fly rod?

My great uncle taught me to fly fish, when I was in middle school. To start we didn’t use flies. He would tie a small swivel with a spinner to the end of the leader and put a long shank bream hook on the swivel. Then we baited the hook with half a night crawler. We’d usually fill a stringer with bass and bream.

I spent weekend before last in Colorado Springs…second time I’ve been. With the blue lib politics, I never felt safe. You might want to figure out a way to carry long guns as well.

I live in NOLA. I never saw National Guard in NOLA outside the CBD and FQ. And it’s been months since I’ve seen any at all.

Apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Each is good alone. But the combination just puts it on another level…1+1=3

re: Buying a lake camp on leased land..thoughts?
Posted by Coach Yo on 3/15/26 at 4:26 pm to Kingshakabooboo
I wouldn’t buy the camp if the lease is year-to-year. A fifteen year lease that I could record may be an acceptable deal.
Lifeguard at a small town city pool.
Last time I went to our local DMV, I walked in expecting I would be there for at least a couple of hours. I was done and out the door in 30 min. And the lady who waited on me was very nice and engaging.

re: The stupid white guy role on commercials

I can’t believe y’all get upset about how some random white guys are depicted in television commercials. Do you really think these commercials impact the way you are viewed by your co-workers, friends and the public? I see them as completely f**cking irrelevant.

I have a 20 gauge Silver Pigeon. I love it. Use it for dove, quail, pheasant and teal. Good gun.

re: When did you/your kids stop believing in Santa?
Posted by Coach Yo on 12/25/25 at 11:43 am to BamaCoaster
I have 4 dusghters, mid-20’s to early 30’s. My wife and I still have never admitted to them that there is no Santa. Obviously, they know, but talking with them, and grandkids, about Santa adds to the Christmas spirit.
