re: Are automated parking lots the new stop light cameras?

This is the only way it could’ve happened. All of the public parking spots in town here have gone to the QR code parking apps. I don’t mind them, but I didn’t know this would happen as I certainly never signed up at this center.
Are automated parking lots the new stop light cameras?
Posted by NolaLovingClemsonFan on 4/30/26 at 11:25 am
This shopping center near the house that we go to a lot just installed some sort of automated parking thing that once you drive onto the lot, it sends you a text saying your parking trip has started and then ends it when you leave. Mind you there’s no gate to go in and take a ticket, it’s all automated with sensors I guess. I also never signed up for it, gave it my card, or my cell phone, but I still get the texts (which is creepy in and of itself).
It tells me my bill at the end (and my cumulative bill). I just delete it right away as it reeks of those stop light cameras that mailed you bills but were totally not enforceable. Are these things legal? They simply hoping some pay out of fear, or is it legit?

Man I hope he stays healthy, but damn this feels risky, especially with our training staff (or lack thereof)

Does anyone know why there seems to be randomness around this? A week ago it was Austin. Then LGA. Now it’s New Orleans. It doesn’t seem like there’s rhyme or reason. Is there any way to know if your airport will get smoked and have this nightmare? I fly out of Charlotte Wednesday. Is it just get to any airport 3 hours early these days just in case?

Thought it was pretty good overall.
As some said it got a bit silly at the end, but I thought still pretty good, and I’m not a Sherlock ride or die.
My only problem, if it can even be considered that, is that the second guy Moriarti stole every single scene he was in to the point it was almost awkward, AND this is with the fact that I really liked the Sherlock actor.
All of the adults were either wooden or cartoonish, but I thought Moriarti and Sherlock were so good. That Moriarti dude is gonna be a star.

F trying to spin higher prices as good for most anyone in the US, BUT getting rid of the Jones Act would be a huge benefit of all of us, one of the most absurdly restrictive laws there is, to largely our detriment.

We’re scheduled to be in Cancun middle of May, and my wife is freaking out worrying this will wreck everything. Usually it feels like this stuff gets isolated to pockets where only locals and cartels are affected. It spilling over into international settings like airports is pretty scary. Sucks, hope it simmers down over the next 2+ months!

While I generally agree with your sentiment, I think you’re missing OP’s point. He doesn’t want to adopt anyone, foreign or domestic. He wants reasonably high functioning people to come visit, stay a few months or a year, then leave. There isn’t much of a market for that outside of foreign exchange students.
Exactly

I don't understand why Americans never want to help out Americans. Why wouldn't you want to adopt an American kid? And I don't mean this to be a smartass.. I'm just curious
It's like my Church.. all of their money trips are overseas to rebuild things... It annoys me that they never go to low income parts in our own ountry to help rebuild things and it's always a select group of people that go on these long trips overseas.
I just find it odd
Fair. For me it would be two-fold. I do think there is a benefit to giving our kids some exposure outside of the US. I feel it had a profound impact on me growing up so since I don’t think we’ll have the ability to live somewhere overseas, this feels like a way to give a small version of that.
The bigger reason, though, is the permanence of the decision. Sponsoring an exchange student seems like 2% as big of a commitment as adopting a person for life. I mean, if the kid is a nightmare or we find out it isn’t our thing, then it will be over after that semester or whether. If you adopt someone, that’s for life. That’s something I’ve never been able to get comfortable with when it wasn’t someone we created.
It’s less about foreign vs domestic and more temporary vs permanent.
Anyone have experience with housing exchange kids?
Posted by NolaLovingClemsonFan on 2/22/26 at 5:11 pm
My significant other and I were discussing this earlier today. We have two little ones and want to have more, but we also started having kids later in life so not sure if that will be in the cards for us.
I’ve always envisioned having a really big family. I also spent a number of years overseas as a kid as a result of my dad being by in oil and gas, and I loved that experience. I am now in a career that is hyper-local and won’t really allow for my international rotations.
We discussed adoption, but I don’t think I’m cut out for that. This morning we were watching a show where a kid talked about having exchange kids live with him, and something about that seems pretty cool to me.
Curious if anyone has any experience good or bad with that?

Holy shitballs that episode was incredible. I was talking with the wife, and we both were saying how with the idiotic way GOT ended and then the House of the Dragons nonsense, that ending and this whole show is such an epic reminder of how great GOT can be, sorta like Andor for Star Wars. We had almost forgotten how epic GOT is but then you get a final scene like that with the reveal and the score pumping, and LETS frickING GOOO!
One question for those who know this Westeros stuff, but how exactly does the trial of seven have to finish? Is it an actually fight to the death until one team is completely eliminated? If you kill the accuser / accused from either team, does it end regardless of who else is alive? What are the rules?

You have to spend money (smartly) to make money. Why do companies advertise? To make more money. But you need a good product to begin with else it only goes so far.
All of this. The NFL’s decisions as of late reek of the arrogance that ultimately leads to a titan’s downfall. We see it in business. We’ve seen it in sports. Football is not unique. It is not this perfect deity that is immune to suffering and volatility.
I completely agree that it will see some hard times ahead. I always pushed back on those calling for its demise around shite like concussions or being too violent. That was nonsense, but their leadership’s decisions lately are the reason for the eventual decline.

I think Braveheart’s overall peak is higher. It’s true peaks are beyond perfect for a historical action film. At the same time, it can drag slightly and feel a bit long
Gladiator, on the other hand, doesn’t have the absolute highs, but it is so well-paced and perfectly executed
Both beyond epic movies

Would’ve given anything to see Djokovic’s 1st set level of play vs Carlos’ 3rd set level of play. Some of Carlos’ shots in the 3rd set were simply incredible.
What is up with Rafa’s hands / fingers? I know he always had them taped and had issues with them while playing, but the dude’s hands look almost as jacked up as Booger McFarland’s lol.

I know some will say it can be corny, but IDGAF, I love this show. It’s Iike a hot bowl of chicken noodle soup on a cold day, just a perfect warm hug
Michael J Fox was so good, what an awesome addition
The cast continues to expand and get so good. The only real weak spots IMO are Shawn and the daughter. Everyone else is perfect and so good
Can’t wait for more episodes!
