My best case scenario is:

The Judge in Baton Rouge who enjoined the SEC from dictating punishment against the players in question, views the SEC's Amended Law Suit as an end run, sees it for what it is, a violation of the Injunction. Has Sankey arrested for Contempt of Court when he shows up for the hearing in Alabama today. Has him perp walked out the front door, in front of the media and jailed in Baton Rouge lock-up in general population.

Oh, and conveniently the Judge just happens to be out of town until Monday.

Damn, the Attys for the SEC are so bright that they have Stankey Sankey admitting to collusion in his sworn affidavit.

Ultimately, it is possible that this is a Jason Williams idea, however, the lawsuit and amended petition is being handled by a Birmingham Firm that is the legal representation for the SEC. Looking forward to the sanctions issued by the Federal Court for this frivolous lawsuit.

I'll attempt an answer to this question.

In its infinite wisdom the NCAA enacted a rule change that applies to the incoming class of freshman (2026 class) in its totality. However, the rule for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes will be either the old rules of eligibility or the new rule of eligibility whichever benefits the student athlete. For the 2022 class the either/or applies if the athlete has not exhausted his 4 years of eligibility when the new rule took effect. The subset of 2022 enrollees who have exhausted their 4 years of eligibility at the end of the 2025-2026 season(s) are finished.

The players in their 6th or 7th years are utilizing the old set of eligibility rules, that includes medical waivers, covid years, etc.

The timing of the passage of the new rule and the actual verbage of the bylaw created a discriminatory and adverse action against the subset of the 2022 class that have completed 4 years of eligibility. The Courts across this country have sided with that subset of players for this very reason. I have not heard of a single instance when a Court ruled against the player. That tells you something.

There was an easy solution to this problem. After the losses started piling up in the Courts, the adults in charge at the NCAA should have realized that they, themselves created this problem and should have addressed the issue by allowing the players the fifth year just like they had granted to the 2023, 2024 and 2025 class of enrollees with the either/or provision. But no, the NCAA had to double down on stupid. Additionally, they should have allowed the undrafted players who attempted the continuation of the football careers to return, as a one-off.
