Thanks guys! This has definitely peaked our interest and flights seem reasonable. any recs for specific areas to stay ? Thinking some of the islands would be cool for 2-4 days. will have two kids (11&14) and possibly grand parents. ideally stay in a nice vrbo. What about fishing or crabbing charter in the area? have a son that loves to fish.
tell him no. why is this even a post …

Seattle / Oregon Trip

Considering a 12-14 day trip with the family this summer. Fly into Seattle and drive the Oregon coast then to Crater Lake. Just starting to look at this and would appreciate any input. We were originally planning to go to Maine, but now looking at other options.

Thanks,

agree with this. would definitely add 2-3 nights for Teton. We like Teton more than YS.

re: Why does Houston customs suck ?

we probably fly internationally 1-2 times a year so don’t have global entry. but every time we arrive in IAH there is a long line of people and maybe 4-6 of the 75 lanes are open. a lot like wal mart except that they don’t offer self checkout.

when we arrive in Mexico, Costa Rica, etc us seems like they will almost always add more employees to speed things along. I guess that’s just the way it is l

Thank you! is there a town that is best to stay in as a base? Ideally a place near the water with restaurants, hiking, beaches near by?

Thanks Guys. we are going to switch gears and focus on flying into Boston and spending the rest of the time in Maine… Have about two weeks to work with so would appreciate any other thoughts you may have on Maine.

Why does Houston customs suck ?

every time I fly back on an international flight to IAH there is a very long line for customs. There are at least 75 customs lanes and never more than 5-7open. It’s like going to Wal Mart.

NYC / Boston Maine

Looking to book a trip for family of 4 to NYC - Boston then to Maine. Fly out of BR or NOLA this July. Kids are 11&14 and like sports, outdoors, etc. ideally spend 2 days in NYC, 2 -3 in Boston Area and then on to maine for a Week. we have been to NYC a few times and have that down, but looking for must sees in Boston as well as best area to stay in. Also, easiest way to get from NYC to Boston (assuming train) but will have luggage. where to rent the car to start drive to main? for the Maine portion would
like to stay at or near the water. planning to rent VRbO in Maine. any must see towns/areas of Maine? planning to hit Acadia at some point and then ideally fly back out of Maine. would appreciate any input.

Also - go to Kumana Bistro. it’s the restaurant at Pine Bungalos in Jasper and the best meal that we had on that trip. The cabins looked cool but we booked late and they were full so we didn’t actually stay there. but the restaurant was amazing

download the GyPSy Guide (now GuideAlong) app. they have a part specifically for the ice fields parkway. We used it and it was great. tracks your path (gps enabled) and tells you all kinds of useful information. the drive is incredible and there are a bunch of cool lakes, hikes and waterfalls. Definitely get the guide app.

Drive up the ice fields parkway to jasper. Lots of amazing sites along the way. Spend the night in Jasper. Visit Jasper NP and lake maligne and others. we enjoyed that area more than the Lake Louise area.
Easy. use google maps. used it quite a bit last summer with wife and daughter. way easier than cab or uber

re: Edit. Colorado trip Ouray

we’ve don’t this trip a few times. Happy to make recs depending on where you will visit. 11th street station in Durango for afternoon beer and food is great. Twin peaks lodge in Ouray is pretty cool and worth it for the springs. rent a sxs (can am, polaris, etc) in ouray and drive up imogene pass. way more fun than a jeep

Look at Teton Village. we stayed in a condo there a couple of years ago and it was great and cheaper than in JH.

could not agree more. Ouray may be my favorite town in CO. and you are a short drive from Telluride

re: Tulum - Activities

Bumping this back up. How hard is it driving/getting around down there ? would be driving from Cancun to Tulum? I have driven around costa rica and Cabo, but not cancun before. I would obviously get the extra insurance. any recs on renting a car? .
