Agreed 100%. This is such a lazy argument brought on by the people who only watch soccer every 4 years. These same people also think there should be no offsides, the goals should be bigger, and the field should be smaller.
It’s all about development. We have plenty of people to be good at soccer. We need to start developing better at a younger age.

It’s definitely not completely random. Teams are put into pots (pot A, B, C, D) based on FIFA ranking. Teams in pot A are drawn into each group then B and so on. They don’t want two teams from the same region in a group with the exception of Europe so they will move teams around if that happens. That’s a high level of how it’s done.
