I think people forget that they need to see situations from a higher altitude.

It's easy to see it this way, but at some point the cops start thinking that they're possibly being led to a crime scene; the wife might be a suspect as part of the story; they need to find out if she is who she says she is; she is incoherent and combative; she is a danger to herself and others while driving...

at this point you have to slow everything down and start planning, not reacting.

Definitely on some mental meds and chained to TheRapist mind doctors who tell her that everything she does can be attributed to someone or something else.
Just be sure to pay the bill on your way out and schedule again next week.
