re: Best used auto rate?
Posted by jwn0002 on 12/18/22 at 6:08 pm
I purchased last week for my wife. Used car. No trade in but 5k down.
Americas First credit union offered 3.35 for 48 months or 3.45 at 60.
I went with 60 and only stipulation was joining credit union and funding $20.
Other rates were in the 6-7% range. I was honestly surprised at how low it...

re: No cost refi offer
Posted by jwn0002 on 5/2/21 at 10:58 am
Just started the process of something similar. My “no cost” offer was 3.25.
Offer with paying for all costs and buying points was 2.6. For reference this was a cash out rate and it would have been about .25 lower as straight refinance.
I haven’t made a decision yet on mine but there is a cos...
re: I own a truck, should I buy a commuter car?

That math is a savings of 225 gallons a year using those number. At $3 gallon that’s $56.25/mo.
20k miles/ 20 mpg = 1,000 gallons @ $3 = $3k
8k miles/20 mpg = 400 gallons @ $3 = $1.2k
12k miles/ 32 mpg = 375 gallons @ $3 = $1.125k
Savings of $675/ 12 = $56.25/mo
The only savings is goi...

Absolutely.

Day 2: drank more beer and didn’t follow the trial
Day 3: drank beer still didn’t follow the trial
Day 4: I noticed the trial was being followed on the OT with a topic. Skipped over it. Drank beer and didn’t follow the trial

Not to derail but I agree. My only knock is I didn’t buy enough. Not because I didn’t believe in it but I thought I had more time to gradually add. I have roughly 2k shares at $2.55ish. I intended to add more thinking it would stay in that range but it got an upgraded PT of $5 and shot up too quick....

Theoretical Refinance Question
Posted by jwn0002 on 4/5/21 at 6:23 pm
Can someone tell me what I’m missing here. I’m conservative/low risk by nature so the following will make more sense.
I have 24 years and 89k left on my mortgage. 4.5% interest. Monthly payment of 550 not including tax and insurance. value of conservatively 200k. 250k+ in current market.
I’m 32. ...

My best friend follows Dave Ramsey religiously. They sold then purchased a new house. And wanted to get a car about 3 months later. Their credit wasn’t strong/diverse enough to support the car purchase that soon.
Being able to leverage your income and take on good debt is the best way to maximize ...

re: Take the trade in value or try and sell on my own

Just my opinion. Since I commented earlier on it but I seriously wouldn’t go any other way than Carvana for buying or selling if they had what I was looking for. The vehicle I sold needed new tires bad and they didn’t say anything about it. Was actually nervous they were going to call me out on it. ...

I just sold a vehicle yesterday. Had it listed in several places. The hassle of dealing with other people flaking out or wasting my time just talking wasn’t worth it (to me).
Carvana gave me a cash offer 1,500 more than Carmax and about 4k more than was offered trade in. The guy took like 4 pictur...

My opinion (not a financial advisor) you have 6 years left on the mortgage. Which means you have paid mostly interest and have almost all principle left for the remaining 6 years. Assuming a 20-30 year loan term. I wouldn’t pay it off now as the interest savings can’t be much.
I’m also going to ...
