As someone who has elementary and middles school aged kids this travel ball and competitive sports thing is out of control.
It’s so bad the local leagues do not even want to have recreational teams .if you are lucky enough to find a recreational team the entire league may consist of 3 teams that play each other over and over again
The leagues treat these kids like red headed step kids often making it difficult to access facilities or have practices

I played tackle football there in the 90’s. It taught me so much that kids don’t get anymore.
You were forced to play every position on the field. Every week you were put on a new team and were given a designated position to play that week
