re: Game tonight against Nicholls has been cancelled
Posted by cajuncdm on 2/19/25 at 2:13 pm
combination of really wet conditions in the outfield (Thibodaux had 1.5" rain overnight) AND the wind chill tonight led to the mutual decision to postpone the game. They may be considering playing Monday at Alex Box, and LSU go to Thibodaux for the April play date scheduled...
re: Saw a former player say that LSU Football is not tough

Soft
Weak
Beta
Undisciplined
Poor technique
POORLY COACHED.
Tell me I’m wrong…Kelly does not come across as an alpha male. No one on our staff comes across that way.
Kelly is on his second OC and 2nd DC and isn’t through his 3rd season yet. He ran off Tommy Moffit, which appears to have been a huge loss, as we are quite weak in the trenches on both sides. Brad Davis has to be held accountable too for the lack of run blocking ability. We have large humans on the OL. The lack of technique combined with the absence of aggressive demeanor and grit has black holed our run game. We had almost a year to prepare our O line to learn and master traditional run block schemes to transition away from JD’s run game. We cannot run block consistently.
Although BB is in the first yr of implementing his system, his defense has incementally regressed. We had TWO WEEKS to prepare for MILROE, who we 100% know is gonna run a lot, yet we look like we never saw him play ever. POORLY COACHED and poor technique.
Now, if the true reason is talent, that falls on Kelly and Co as well. He’s on the verge of his 3rd full recruiting class…plus the portal, and he should be able to rebuild the roster, especially on defense.
Nuss has to become more disciplined and mature with decision making with the ball. He demoralizes the defense when he turns it over, especially on bonehead decisions. Can’t afford to be so damn careless with the football.
Kelly is on the verge of really digging a deep hole if this ‘25 class doesn’t produce equal to the hype. Skill guys and BU are fantastic, but if we don’t drastically improve in the trenches and on defense quick, gonna have to get used to L’s like that vs the likes of Bama, UGA, and others that are far more physical in those areas.

re: Denbrock leaving means House cannot stay

To stabilize what? The defense? The defense is not unstable. It has been consistently HORRIBLE. If he keeps House, while promoting Sloan, it’s the first nail in Kelly’s coffin. We are struggling to attract premier talent in recruiting on the defensive side of the ball now; imagine what the negative recruiting unleashed by other coaches if we keep the DC with the worst defense in the conference and one of the worst 3rd down defenses in the country over the last 2 seasons, with plans to promote an unknown OC, without the Heisman QB and 1st round WRs, who in large part, carried this team to 9 W’s?
Surely, CBK is smarter and more strategic than that, right?

re: LSU RB Armoni Goodwin enters portal

But the writing is on the wall. Jackson, Holly, and Bradford all ahead of him currently. Dude wants to start, so he’s gotta go somewhere where he can compete for RB1. Best of luck to him.
re: Baseball Recognition Saturday?
Posted by cajuncdm on 11/7/23 at 4:40 pm
it's not a slight. it's recognition in front of 100,000 fans (mostly LSU), national publicity, AND you celebrate in front of the fan base you beat. This positively affects branding, marketing, exposure, all of it. I'm sure they will also celebrate for baseball opener as well.
re: Hurd with the start. 11 MPH North winds going straight to right field.
Posted by cajuncdm on 6/26/23 at 3:18 pm
Start Hurd, hope for 5 complete.
Herring for 6outs.
Skenes gets the ball for 7-9inn.
Cooper is the safety valve if Skenes runs out of gas or we go extras.
If we don’t hit ALOT better tonight with RISP and with 2outs, it won’t matter.

re: Taking Guidry out was smart

Probably, bc CJJ is an analytics trusting guy, and my hunch is Guidry was told he was facing one batter, the righty, and Cooper was coming in for the LHH. So if Guidry knew the plan matchup wise, which he probably did since he and Cooper were getting hot side by side, then getting pulled after 1 pitch didn’t matter…only facing the righty regardless of number of pitches.

Sorry, but he isn’t an elite closer yet. He’s a freshman MIF/RP with a plus curveball and plus confidence. His fb is 90-91. In two yrs, with a lot of weight training allowing him to gain 3-4mph, and improve his change, he has the potential to be an elite closer.
If the next batter wasn’t RHH, he would not have entered the game. And not going to leave the freshman in after his first pitch gets yanked. His confidence was shaken and that’s his best asset.

re: Travinski or Milazzo
Posted by cajuncdm on 6/6/23 at 5:14 pm
Keep in mind, we threw more breaking balls vs Oregon St in those 2 games than we normally throw bc the scouting report was they could blister FBs. Over half of HT’s pass balls were deflections off his glove, not balls in the dirt. He was handcuffed by a few changeups, and a few way outside pitches to RHHs. They will coach him up this week, especially if the pitching strategy is similar, and he will receive better.
I also believe fatigue was a significant issue, especially yesterday in a day game. Given Saturday is a day game, you may see milazzo in the back 1/3 of the game.

re: How the tables turn
Posted by cajuncdm on 1/18/23 at 10:14 am
I believe it’s fan and geographic bias. WH is legacy player…emotional attachment. WH is born and raised Louisiana player…emotional attachment. So when fans emotionally invest in a Louisiana legacy player as the 2nd coming, and he pivots, it’s really tough to swallow for lots of fans. We are seeing a dichotomy of reaction: either “piss on him and ole piss, hope he fails” or “have sympathy, doing what’s best for him, good luck.” Both are ways to cope with the disappointment of a highly touted native son abandoning his perceived LSU legacy before it had a chance to grow legs.

re: Wait - are we returning all our coaches?
Posted by cajuncdm on 12/19/22 at 10:33 pm
Movement will occur after the bowl, mainly bc contracts may have incentives linked to bowl, total wins, etc, and the national college football coaches convention is in early January and a lot of positions are filled during that time…
