A lot of agencies had some funds stashed away to go though the end of this week…IRS, FDA, NPS, etc.

Next week should show more effects.

IMO start pulling social security checks, FHA loans, etc and it’ll get these congressmen back in gear quickly.
Your taxes also pay for some of the services you wont receive during a shutdown.

You may not notice it for a day or two but give it a week and you'll start to notice things.
A RIF notice has to be given at a minimum 30 days prior to the actual date of separation. Usually the employee is put on administrative leave for those 30+ day...but all leave (including admin leave) is cancelled during a furlough so take that for what you see it.

EDIT: this is just a notice of intent to RIF so i guess the date of the notification (on furlough/shutdown or not) starts the clock.
This 100k fed employees are one’s that haven’t been working for 8 months because of the Fork in the road aka deferred resignation program. Many of which that were set to retire this year or were probationary. The latest date they could “resign” is September 30
15+ year federal employee here...

there are protections in place to keep fed employees from being fired based on "political influence". Once you get head scientist, doctors etc biased with political options there can be tons of issues.

That being said, on way to legally do it is cut funding. Trump cannot directly cut funding but he can 'advise' congress to do so. No funding=no pay=no jobs. Checks and balances.

All that said, there are MANY federal agencies that MAKE money for the fed gov. Things like application fees, leases, etc. The office I work for is ~80% reimbursable funds, meaning that 80% of our annual operating budget comes from non-congressionally appropriated funds (there is overhead charge to that which goes back to the higher ups). But, because we fall under the federal gov umbrella, we are subject to RIF's. furloughs etc.

I got about ten hummers buzzing around this morning in south Lafayette. You think this “cold” front will scare them off?

This is the most I’ve had in a while, I’m hoping they stick around for a little bit.
This email is equivalent to the CEO of chevron asking the janitor at the gas station in Bunkie to write his accomplishments to prove his worth. He has no clue what the job description is much less what he does.
I’m not saying that feds shouldn’t be exempt from lay offs but the protections are in place to keep layoffs from becoming politically motivated. When you get lead scientists and attorneys whose jobs become politically motivated thats when we have larger problems at hand.

Custom crawfish baskets

Posted by couyon2 on 11/30/24 at 9:18 pm
Anyone know where I can get a custom crawfish basket made for a boil pot. I have a family heirloom pot (probably a stew pot from WWII) and the basket is made from stainless mesh and wire and it’s on its last leg.

I’ve checked online restaurant supply houses with no luck. Basket dimensions would need to be 13h X 19w roughly.

TIA!
I did this and it led to sinus surgery. Now I’m a daily Claritin user. Helps me tremendously

re: DO NOT BUY Cub Cadet

I have a cub cadet push mower with a 2007 serial number my dad gave me. Went underwater in 2012 during Issac, drained it and started right up. Sat up in storage for three years with old gas. Little starting fluid and started right up. Only time oil was changed was after it flooded. I can’t kill the thing

Best Dishwashers

Posted by couyon2 on 4/29/24 at 7:50 am
The time has come. My 16 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher finally bit the dust. Stopped running and then the entire house started to smell like plastic.

Not opposed to Bosh but i hear that they dont dry well. Any suggestions for a mid-tier dishwasher that wont break the bank.

TIA
Have them do an act of donation, much cheaper (if any) tax-wise.
I’m on nadolol and noticed my heart rate stays in the 130s- 140s during cardio with the occasional peak to 150. When I hit 150 I need to slow down. Just listen to your body and monitor your breathing and you should be good. I also have a pacemaker so that might have something to do with it as well.

re: Nasal polyps surgery

Had sinus and septum surgery about a year ago and they removed a load of polyps. I can breathe for the first time in years. First two weeks I had some pretty nasty drainage that was consistent. Took about 6-8 weeks to stop seeing dried blood. Use the rinse they give you several times a day and you’ll be golden. Felt fine the second day after the procedure regarding pain
I have a cat that was near 18lbs doing the same stuff...vet considered him obese and diabetic....I wasn't about to pay for bloodwork for something my wife found in a parking lot. We put him on a crash diet for several months, lost about 8lbs. He still pees more than what I think he should but its not on our stuff like it was. Granted he is 13 years old but is considerably better. Just my 2 cents.
Just sold a 2010 truck on FB market place with 303k miles for blue book value. Just make sure you vet the potential buyer well through internet searches and FB before you get yourself into something stupid.

re: New brake pads grinding.

happened on wifes car recently. Evetime you would depress the brake after a redlight or if the car was in park it would grind and release a few seconds later. The parking brake apparently needed a fine adjustment.
