I'm confused. Please tell exactly where did I make a comparison of buckshot to a 30 06? Granted I probably could have made it easier to follow in case you did not read or possibly don't remember 2 posts on page 4 of this thread. One states "Hell- a buckshot pellet hitting where that thing hit would have been a through and through wound". The very next post in response to that posted was "At 200 yards? Damn!". No where did I make the comparison you stated I made.

Oh, and still prefer my old .22 Benjamin pump I got for Christmas in '61 over my son's .177 Gammo
My thoughts are similar to yours. From personal experiences, I believe that the actual bullet/projectile used has everything to do with wound channel. Since mid 80's my go to rifle has been a 257 Roberts. At 1st was a BLR. I was shooting Nosler partition and was almost always getting a pass through. In '90 got a Ruger 257 Roberts because it was a long action and I had it free bored a bit so I wouldn't have to seat th bullet as deep therefore allowing more powder. Started off reloading 100 gr Nosler ballast tips. They were 'hot' but not getting any pass throughs. Was finding cup with no lead in it when cleaning the deer. Bullet was fragmenting like hell. Switched 115 gr bullets were not much better. The wound channels were very bizarre at times to say the least, especially if rib was clipped on entry. Ended up switching bullets.
Someone said something about buckshot. In late '60's shot a buck at 20 yards broadside in the middle of his brisket with 12 ga 3" mag #1 buckshot and not a one of the 24 pellets exited!

Maybe if Dawg fans applied a thin coat of mustard to the cowbells, the Vol s wouldn't find them so offencive

Years back while hunting the wet side of Ms river levee with a group that ran dog, I put a Weaver 1 1/2 x 4 with a post and cross hair rectical on mu BLR. It was great for acquiring one's target quickly. Love it.
What is frustrating is driving from Port Gibson to Ridgeland on the Natchez Trace when some group is having a 'big' ride...multiple groups 20+ covering both lanes of traffic. Some act like the Trace is for cyclist and only them. Dangerous and very aggravating.
After screwing something up, Dad would tell "why you are so bright, that is why I call you Sun".
Just a heads up on buying from 'big box' stores. I was in market for a small rider and in reading reviews on various mower a common issue came up frequently. It was that the 'big box' stores do a real sloppy job of assembly and display a real 'not my problem' attitude after sale.

After shopping around I bought a Cub Cadet. While kicking the tire and talking with the salesman I mentioned the above, specifically asking bout the deck being level, and was assured that it would be. well after 3 trips back to them I gave up and asked for my $ back. the store mgr was a schmuck, but got my $ back and have sworn off the big stores
At 75 y/o, I have used both of my boys for tech help. Older son, 41, has more patience so tend to use him more. Younger son, 39. was helping my wife and was getting flustered, I told him he needed to slow down and remember 2 things...1-your mom's techno skills maxed out with microwave popcorn, and 2-she has carbon paper and still uses it. He got the message.

Best 30" gas powered riding mower

Am entertaining buying one. My yard is not that big so don't need a 42" lawn tractor. Makers of 30" are Cub Cadet, Troy-Built, Toro and Craftsman. 2 are made by MTD.

Reading the reviews, one has 'steering plate' issues. Most of the poor reviews were a reflection on poor assembly by the Big Box stores...Lowe's, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and their 'not my problem' attitude, not the mower itself.

Would appreciate input/thoughts/experince on cutting ability, ease of maintenance, durability, etc. Also would like one that cuts in reverse, but not a deal killer.
Thanks

Am 75 yrs old with heart failure and copd. I don't 'look' disabled/handicapped what so ever. Just because someone isn't on crutches or a walker doesn't mean they aren't impaired/handicapped in someway. Not overweight and what grey hair I do have is mostly in my beard. I very, very seldom park in the handicapped areas because there are folks that need it much more than I. I do pretty good on flat/level ground, but even the slightest uphill grade really kicks my butt. Bout half the time at the grocery store/wally's I have to stop and rest/catch my breath. The 2 places that give me the most trouble are doctor visits. Pulmonary appt at Baptist Colonaddes and cardiac appt. at Jackson Heart/St Dominic's as lots are dang near full and can't park close and slightly up hill from lot to building. Bout half the time I have to stop and lean on a car to catch my breath before making it to the building and every time have to sit in lobby to rest before catching the elevator up to Dr's office. Breathing is severely underrated!

I keep my handicapped placard on my dash as hanging from the mirror blocks my view too much. There are a lot of kids in the neighborhood on bikes, scooters, skate, etc that never pay any attention to their surroundings.
An elementary age girl was run over by a school bus this year in my subdivision this year.

It is not the 'golden' years by any means...it is the 'RUST' years so don't be too judgmental.
Bout 20 yrs ago I gave 3 boys I deer hunted with $20 and a box of condoms each with a note saying 'use all wisely' as a graduation gift. The gifts were very well received from the feedback I got.
In the early 1970's I went to the Ms coast to watch cock fights one Sunday morning. The place , I believe, was called Cristy's Pony Farm or something like that. Having no idea what to expect, I was in awe. The place was a good sized block bldg. It even had a concession stand and separate rest rooms for men/wommen. Bet there were 100+ cars there. The place even had 2 drag pits off the main pit. The place was an eye opener for a 20 yr old. It also entrenched that I'm a sucker for a grey horse or a spangled bird.
