So how would that work...he wasn't fired for cause. Can LSU now go back and try to find stuff? The Auburn shenanigans took place before they fired the guy. I'm genuinely curious how that works
Looks like they're firing him for cause after all...

So now that it's not hypothetical ...
The contract is not hypothetical. Brian Kelly doing something to violate its terms is the hypothetical.
Again, the original question was: why are people arguing that LSU should “just pay the man”? Sure, LSU agreed to pay BK a huge amount to coach football, but if he hypothetically violated terms of that contract, why shouldn’t LSU use those terms to minimize what they pay him? I think we’re all on the same page that there’s no option to just arbitrarily refuse payment.

So are you saying he violated this clause if it exists? Seems like LSU would have mentioned it. If he didn't...well, you agreed to it. Pay the man.
Yeah, that’s the whole premise. The question is: if you believe BK should fight for every dollar left on his contract (and for the record, I think he absolutely should), why assume LSU shouldn’t look for every possible way not to pay the full amount?
To be clear, I don’t know whether he actually did anything that violates his contract or justifies a “for cause” firing. But there’s been speculation that he may have breached morality clauses, and if that’s true, it makes sense for LSU to pursue the most favorable resolution for the university.
I’m not sure where the idea comes from that LSU can just “choose” to pay or not pay him. Obviously, if they don’t have legal standing, they don’t. We’re just having an academic discussion here as none of us are on either party’s legal team.

Well If there is one thing we can all find common ground on it's hating Brian Kelly

I agree with you but it looks like they didn’t take the actions needed in said contract to do so. Tell the guy what he violated if that’s the way they want to go. You have to give him a chance to rebuttal.
See my other post but yeah I'm not arguing for not fulfilling your legal obligations. I'm just saying people seem to be giving Brian Kelly the benefit of the doubt and feel he should fight for everything he's owed while not holding that same perspective about LSU and the folks who are responsible for looking out for the school's interests - financial and otherwise.

Ok can you point to the language in the contact and how Kelly violated it? Thanks in advance
We're talking hypotheticals here. None of us have read the contract and all the morality stuff on here is purely speculative. My only point was that I don't understand the people screaming "just pay the man - you signed the contract".

A contract is a contract. He is owed every dime agreed to in that contract.
I don't know if he did anything and frankly I don't care what we pay the guy but I don’t understand some of you. By your logic, since LSU offered Brian Kelly a contract with that buyout, they have to pay it while completely ignoring the fact that he agreed to a morality clause that gives LSU the right to avoid paying if he violates it. So, if that clause exists, shouldn’t LSU be trying to protect its own interests under the same contract terms just like Brian Kelly would if the situation were reversed?

Even with my 4th grade reading level I can tell that the BK buyout money would be better spent on iTunes gift cards for Sanjay in Delhi

Ill be the first to admit I thought LSU was going to be good this year. Had us as a sure playoff team. That said, Brian Kelly had made the team so miserable and not fun to watch that by the time the A&M game happened I was already numb. If anything I feel better about being an LSU fan today than I did 8/30. The sun is shining in Baton Rouge.

Look, I know Woodward made our bed and we have to sleep in it. That said isn't there a terrorist organization or Indian scam center we can give the money to so at least it's going to somebody more deserving and of higher moral character than BK?

Serious question - in the age of unlimited analysts and support staff why are we still hiring position coaches who primarily function as recruiters? It seems obvious that the skill set required to get the the best players to campus and the skill set required to develop those players are two distinct things.
BK Talked About the Standard - But What Standard Are We Seeing?
Posted by Free Drinks on 11/9/25 at 10:34 am
Not to beat a dead horse, but watching last night just reinforced how baffling it is that this team continues to struggle with the most basic aspects of the game.
How does a program with this much talent and experience consistently need to burn multiple timeouts because the play clock is running down? How do you end up taking a timeout to avoid a delay of game right after a delay of game? The false starts, missed blocks, and blown assignments aren’t isolated incidents they’ve become routine.
These are fundamental issues you expect to see from a high school team, not from a veteran team with championship-level personnel. It’s not a lack of ability it’s a lack of attention to detail, communication, and accountability. That points directly to preparation and coaching obviously.
For all of BK's talk about “restoring the LSU standard,” (which is even more offensive now that he clearly had no idea what our standards are except that the end of the Orgeron era weren't meeting them) the current product doesn’t reflect that standard. The talent is there, but discipline, focus, and execution are not.
Frankly embarrassing to watch week after week. Not my LSU.

Lets analyze this. You are going to pay Saban some high price... whatever that is. You are going to pay Cignetti his current rate and you are going to pay Elko his current rate? That would be $50M/year or more. And what motivation do Cignetti or Elko have in making a downward move? Some critical thinking skills sould apply here. No clue if the Saban hiring is even a given.
Humorless Aggie is redundant but it's impressive how daft you have to be to reply 3 times in this thread trying to refute an obvious joke about hiring Cig and Elko as coordinators

If this really goes through, Verge just locked the gate and next move: bring back Will Wade.
