re: Kids finding music

My gf’s (no pics) daughter is 12 and she recently started singing Nirvana and Tool songs. Asked us the other day if we’d ever heard of Deftones. When she was younger she was listening to Cardi B and Lizzo. I’d say her musical taste has taken a turn for the better

Or else what? I guess that’s my main question. He’s obviously working without a license so my concern is if I hire him do I take on any risk? Or is he the only one taking the risk?
Tree guy has insurance but no license

I have a rental property that has four water oak trees in the back yard that I’m having removed. One guy gave me a good price and sent me a copy of his insurance but when I asked him for his license he said he didn’t have one.
Am I at risk at all by hiring him or is he the only one taking the risk by not being licensed?
I called the state’s agriculture and horticulture division and can’t seem to get a straight answer.
EDIT: I’ve decided not to use the guy without a license. I was about to give the job to the other guy I got a quote from who has a license but after looking at his insurance certificate I saw that he only has liability and not work comp. He said he’d sign a liability waiver but I don’t feel comfortable that that’ll hold up if anything were to happen. So I guess I’m gonna start the search over again

Adding a third usb-c to MacBook
Posted by 4thand20 on 4/19/26 at 4:28 pm
I have a MacBook Air that I'm using for music production. Currently having two usb c ports is fine but I would like to add one more. Would it be best to use a splitter, or usb hub or something else?
I have a set of edrums, an amp that utilizes software and also an audio interface so I can only have two of the three plugged in at once. It's not a big deal to unplug one and plug in another but it would be convenient to not have to do that. Also I like to unplug all usb cables when not in use so it'd be nice to have one thing to plug in and unplug

I think the hype train is part of the problem.
Hype is only good for driving up sales. It’s bad for the customer because it gives them high expectations which are never good as far as enjoyment goes. It’s always better to have low expectations. If the game sucks, oh well you were expecting that. If the game is amazing then it’s even better when you were expecting it to suck

You can get a pro w m4 for 1399 with 16 and 512. Much better
I actually saw that Costco has the m5 pro for that price right now. That’s very tempting

Would you get:
MacBook Air m4 15” with 24gb ram and 512 ssd for $1299
Or
MacBook Air m5 15” with 16gb ram and 512 ssd for $1249

They over paid. I saw the same one at Guitar Center for $600
The game looks incredible. Is it going to run like arse on the base PS5 though?

Thank you (and everyone else in this thread) for the input. I had mostly ruled out windows for whatever reason but I’ll have to consider them if they’re viable for music production and I can get those specs at that price range. I’m also still leaning towards refurbished so I’m sure I can get the price down even further

So if you were in my shoes and just wanted a budget friendly option with the minimum required specs, what laptop would you get?
Keep in mind I’m just looking for something that will work for now. If I end up really liking it I can always upgrade

And their reasoning for delaying the physical copy is to stop leaks? Won’t there still be just as many leaks with people playing the digital copy?

Yeah I’m sure the pro would be way better. And I do love a snappy machine so I know the 16gb would be better. I’m just getting to that point where it’s like ‘if I spend this much then I may as well pay a little more and get a bigger this or a better that’. And in the end I really think I just need something that will work good enough for now.
I saw an 8gb MacBook Air M1 with 256gb storage for $371 off of backmarket. I’m leaning towards just going with that. Then I can see what I need/want don’t need/want and it won’t break the bank. If I only get a year or two of use out of it then I’m fine with that. I can just turn around and trade it in on something better

Thank you for the detailed reply but oh man, most of that went way over my head lol. I should’ve noted that I’m borderline computer/tech illiterate. Which probably means I just need the bare minimum laptop to get started and if it’s something I really get into then I can get a beefier setup.
So you think I should stay away from 8gb RAM altogether? Because some of the refurbished laptops I was looking at only had 8gb. Also I do have a Scarlett audio interface. And some Audio Technica headphones for playback and a Shure (can’t remember the model) microphone although I don’t plan on doing any vocals as my singing is worse than my playing lol
Laptop for low level music recording.

Looking to dip my toes into recording music. I have some edrums, a bass and electric/acoustic guitars. I have a GK mb210 bass amp and a Boss Katana 100 gen 3 guitar amp and a handful of effects pedals. Also a focusrite Scarlett audio interface. I'm looking to do some very basic music recording just for fun. Not looking to become a professional musician by any means. This is just a hobby of mine. And I’m not that good to begin with lol
Looking for a laptop dedicated to this. I want to download ezdrummer 3 and Boss Tone Studio and a basic music recording program on it. I know laptops can get expensive but I’d love to something in the $500 range if possible. Max budget would probably be around $800 but I definitely do not want anything overkill for my basic needs.
I saw a new 16gb MacBook Air m4 at Costco on sale for $799 but it only has 256gb storage. Not sure if that'll be enough even for my basic needs.
The Apple certified refurbished MacBooks are more expensive than the new ones are of the same model at Costco.
I saw a refurbished 8gb m1 model on Backmarket for around $500 with 512gb storage. I know that site has mixed reviews but it looks like they have the best deals.
Also saw an 8gb refurbished m3 model with 512gb storage on Best Buy for $750.
Do any of these sound good? Too much/not enough? I’m leaning towards a MacBook but should I consider a windows laptop as they are cheaper and may be all I need? Thanks in advance for any advice.
