Judge was obviously an a-hole. But the IT guy was also being an a-hole (although he was doing it in a less serious manner because he was basically making fun of the judge).
Why can’t we say frick them both? :dunno:

It still blows my mind that they were all digitally animated by some 16 year old kid in his room
Agreed. And the way he filmed them (or created them) where they look like they were filmed on a handheld video camera from the 90s really fits for this kind of format, as well as the material. The low-budgetness of it really works. So one concern I have is that translating into 2026-level cinema, so hopefully it does. If that makes sense.
I also love that it’s such a simple idea, and even though there are “monsters” so to speak (the speaker head thing, the pumpkin wheelie thing in the mall, etc.), the mundaneness and endlessness of the office building stuff is legit creepy in itself. Like you could have zero “bad guys” and it would still be fairly scary/creepy to just be stuck in an endless world like that. I thought that was really cool. I also did semi enjoy the corporate aspect of it as well, since if something like that did exist obviously some company would try to profit on it and commercialize it. And of course they were both oblivious to the danger of it or ignored it since it was an obstacle to their goals.

You should watch his series called "the oldest view" it's kinda like the backrooms but set in an abandoned mall
I saw the couple of videos he had about that. I assume that’s the one where the dude finds the hole in middle of the woods out in BFE and there’s hundreds of stairs that descend and at the end is a legit mall from the 80s/90s, and there is the huge pumpkin head monster thing on wheels? I liked that one.

've seen most of the backroom movies. They're pretty good.
I went down that youtube rabbit hole after seeing the teaser thread, and I really enjoyed them a lot. I thought they were really well done for what they were.
I also think the simplistic, "boring" aspect of it is one thing that makes them so entertaining and compelling. I'm not sure how well that will translate into a feature length movie, but I will definitely check it out and see though.
And I agree that I expect this to be great for 90% of the movie and then suck in the last 10%, as per A24 requirements.

I'm also getting some As Above, So Below vibes.
If they're smart they will use that model, which the shorts seems like they're sort of based on anyway, even if indirectly. It also gives off a little bit of a Severance vibe, but that's more due to the layout of their work building and the seemingly randomness of it.
Either way, I think this could be really good if they play it right.

He said it already...it's the scene where he whips out his dick. OP just really likes dick.

I think it looks significantly worse.
I said after the first trailer that I will watch it, just not in theaters. And this trailer doesn't change my mind on that.

This thread reminds me of that video a few years ago of some white chick on a beach in India and like 20 dudes are just standing there staring like they’re waiting for a rape opportunity. Not creepy at all:

Anyone have any ideas?
Yes, upgrade and get a new TV. These days you can get upwards of 75" TVs for like $500.
It is incredible how far TV prices have fallen. 20 years ago my buddies and I used to go look at TVs at Best Buy and our "dream TV" was a 50" Pioneer plasma TV. This thing was just a monitor too...did not come with speakers at all. And it was $10,000. Nowadays you can get a 50" TV for like $150.

Not to mention that by the time they're at the urinal, they've already walked past at least one trashcan in the bathroom.

I can’t for the life of me figure out the PG-13 rating.
Same here. This is per google AI:
quote:
Project Hail Mary is rated PG-13 by the MPAA primarily for thematic material and intense sci-fi peril. Key factors include scenes of intense survival situations, a character facing a, a character facing a high-stakes, life-or-death mission, images of deceased crew members, and discussions about suicide, along with mild profanity and some social drinking.
quote:
Key Elements Contributing to the PG-13 Rating:
Intense Sequences & Peril: The film contains intense scenes of space travel, accidents, and life-or-death situations, such as a character being knocked unconscious, a forced injection, and dangerous spacewalks.
Thematic Elements: The plot focuses on a desperate, high-stakes mission to prevent the extinction of humanity, which includes discussions on suicide as a contingency plan.
Death & Injury: Early scenes show the discovery of dead bodies in space, which are then handled in a funeral scene.
Suggestive Content & Alcohol: The film features, at times, social drinking (e.g., wine, vodka), some mild flirting, and references to hookups.
Mild Language: The dialogue contains occasional mild profanity, including words like "piss" and some uses of "Oh my God".
The film focuses heavily on, and, a, at times, comical relationship between the main character and an alien, rather than heavy gore or explicit violence.
So basically the mildest PG-13 rating ever?
I mean, if you have to list that they say "Oh my God"....TWICE, then parents should be forewarned.

That's the most asinine conclusion I'll read all week. I refuse to assign it to the OP. It belongs to you.
Based on your dumb bullshite in this thread, I'll take that as a compliment coming from you.

Its pretty fine for kids. There was a couple of curse words and some fairly intense scenes but I think it would be mostly fine.

If he’s seen Jurassic Park, he can do PHM
quote:
This is the softest PG-13 movie I have ever seen. No cursing, no sexual content other than a mildly suggestive joke, and no violence. The dead bodies of the astronauts at the beginning look a little creepy because they are dried out. There are far scarier parts in Jurassic Park and even E.T.
Good to know, thanks. I have a "boys' weekend" with him coming up where mom is out of town, and he wants to go see a movie, so I was thinking maybe either this or the new Super Mario movie.
Intense doesn't bother him. I did let him watch Die Hard the other day , but it was on FX so the language was mostly edited. Mom wasn't too happy when I let him watch Jurassic Park a few years ago, but I told her that 90% of that movie is cool dinosaur shite, and part of being a boy is watching cool shite your mom is against with your dad when she's out of town.

I did. And his point was that the article was misleading because of the headline, which is the entire point of the thread being started in the first place.

I’m not sure if this has been said already—and I’m not claiming it’s better—but Project Hail Mary feels like the closest thing my kids’ generation has gotten to ET.
How is PHM for kids? I have a 6.5 year old and he's seen a good bit of movies that are what I guess I'd call "soft PG-13" movies. Like he's seen Jurassic Park and whatnot.
I loved the book and can't wait to see this, and he saw me reading the book and always asked questions about it and wants to see it. But I generally don't let him watch movies that are PG-13 that I haven't seen first. But I specifically remember the book NOT having cussing in it. And there's no violence either. I'm curious as to why it got a PG-13 rating in the first place. But I find it hard to believe there's anything in it that my son couldn't watch. Thoughts?

I learned about Black Sails from here and have told a ton of people to watch it after I did.
Well hopefully you didn't tell them massive spoilers like you did in this thread for someone who started the thread saying they are watching it for the first time. What a dick move.
I have not, but my aunt and uncle (who died about six months ago) who live in Merritt Island and watch launches on the long pier behind their house. She's sent out a video before of some rocket taking off and it was pretty badass.
