I'm sorry that your aunt died. Even at 91, she could have had several more good years. And I hope you and your family are able to grieve and give her the last respects that it sounds like she deserves.

I truly think the difference in outcomes and spread is due to life styles between CA and NYC. I mean just look at population densities and the prevalence of automobiles
You have a point. Subways became major spreaders in NYC. Also, there is a large religious population in New York that refused to adhere to lockdown measures.
California's public transit system is not nearly as popular. California also has a much larger Asian American population. The virus could have been moving through population for months.
(Los Angeles is a metropolitan area of 13m people, and only about 360,000 people use rail on an average weekday, and just 855,000 ride the bus. To put this into context, in New York, with a population of 20m, approximately 5m ride the subway on an average weekday.)

Why didnt we stop that?
Every President has fought the "war on drugs".
Here is the problem. People like drugs. People want drugs. People would kill to get more drugs.
And here is the difference. Drugs aren't contagious. You can't catch an opioid overdose at the grocery.
Other non-contagious things: smoking, cancer, car accidents, heart attacks, plane crashes, strokes.
If the government outlawed sugar, cigarettes, driving cars, and red meat to "save lives"; people would revolt. Because they are personal choices. Getting the Wuhan virus is not a personal choice.

re: Are you wearing a mask in public?
Posted by TigerTabby on 4/19/20 at 8:49 am
Yes. I live outside of Philadelphia and near NJ. We are required to wear a mask when leaving the house.
I don't wear gloves unless grocery shopping. I wear them and toss them as soon as I leave the store.
Wearing a mask won't hurt you. It isn't a big deal - except when running. I find it hard to wear mask while running.

Is there a way we could divert water across the country through a series of pipelines? Or would it be impossible?
It seems like there is always one place that is getting too much rain, and another too little.
I'm guessing this wouldn't be possible due to microorganisms in each waterway being different. Or the sheer volume of water needing to be moved.

Agreed. I hate thank you cards. I give a gift because I want to, not to obligate you to send a fricking card. A text saying "hey, I got your gift" is so much better.
But dear Lord, if I don't send my MIL a thank you card, I have to hear about it in not-so-subtle jabs for a year.

This.
Spend more on better quality. Stop shopping at dollar stores and Walmart. Stop buying clothes that will only last a year and cheap toys that will break tomorrow.
We, as a country, are so addicted to buying cheap shite that we gave up our manufacturing sector. You can't shop at Walmart and complain about lack of good paying jobs. You can't have it both ways.

That’s not really what he meant. Several pages back he even said this would be a shitty bioweapon because of the low death rate in response to the poster saying this could be a bioweapon.
It would only be a shitty bioweapon if the goal was to kill. It would be a successful bioweapon if the goal were to disrupt global markets and destabilize developed countries. Notice the low instances in South America and Africa. No need to destabilize those places.
I'm in no way saying this bioterrorism. Just saying that if it were, they did a damn good job.
re: What's the biggest difference between schools today and when you grew up?
Posted by TigerTabby on 2/28/20 at 9:00 am
Snow days. Going to high school in the north east, we had so many snow days - sometimes 2 or 3 days in a row (blizzard of 1996!). Now, no snow days where I live.

Do you get a trophy when you’re rival wins?
Are you ok? You seem really upset that SEC fans are happy about SEC schools doing well.
Is there something going on in your life right now that makes you log onto another conference's message board and troll? Did you lose a pet? Did a family member die? Did you lose your job?
Because if any of that happened, I can understand why you would come here to blow off steam. If none of that happened, please know, your attempts to veil your fear of January 13 have fallen flat. You seem unhinged (and oddly into Tim Tebow.)

I don't think you are understanding the point the OP was making. LSU owns the rivalries because we have beaten (or will have beaten) both sides of all these major CFB rivalries.

Our flight only had a few Tiger fans. Georgia fans seemed to blend in. Saw a fair number of P&G at airport and on MARTA. Haven't made it further than that yet.

NorthTXLSU - you think we got a chance at winning the BCS this year eh?
"The AFCA National Championship Trophy (also known as the Coaches' Trophy) is the trophy awarded annually by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the NCAA Division I FBS college football national champion as determined by the Coaches' Poll. The trophy has been presented since 1986 and was contractually given to the winner of the BCS National Championship Game and its predecessors from 1992 to 2013. It will continue to be awarded to the No. 1 ranked team in the final poll of the season."
So yes, LSU will get another crystal ball this year.

Checking in. I hate basketball. Won't watch it. But I always hope that LSU teams do well.
I'm sure you meant people who are hating on our team, but I just hate basketball.
