Will you please tell me how to legally use my write-offs as a tax deduction. I asked my accountant about that my first year in practice twenty years ago, and he said you can’t write it off. ...

I don’t doubt that at all. It was almost a sure thing that delta kids at Ole Miss or State would get a DUI in their first semester. We were all just so used to being the designated drunk driver. Thankfully our kids use Uber these days....

Back in the day, we could go from Greenville to Chevy’s and barely hit blacktop. Good times and I am just glad to have made it through. ...

That is really cool to see in your backyard. Not often that bucks like that hang around in yards. Where in Texas are you? I have always loved hunting South Texas, but they are getting too proud of those trophy bucks for me. ...
I miss the old one too. It really was the unofficial start to the hunting season. You always would run into old friends and hunting acquaintances to get you in the mood for the upcoming season. It’s amazing how humans can find ways to mess up a good thing. I used to help friends by working in the Me...

I have owned four suburbans, and I can’t think of a practical reason to own a Tahoe or Yukon. They drive basically the same, but the Tahoe has zero cargo room. Even with the third row up in the Suburban, you can fit all of your luggage for a family of five. Also, I hunt a lot, and I prefer the subur...

Thank you Oldskule. Do you have to hire an Indian guide on the reservation hunts? I have heard the numbers are down up there. Hopefully we can find an honest outfitter with good numbers. Thanks again for any tips for hunting the reservation...

Merriams outfitter recommendations

I am looking to take my Dad on a Merriams hunt in Nebraska or South Dakota. Does anybody have any good outfitters or info about hunting the Indian reservations? Thanks...

It’s interesting that you talked about enjoying time around the skinning rack or the camp house at night . It reminded me of all the good times when everybody gathered for supper at the big house or around the skinning shed. Today, at the club, everybody retreats to their own cabin for meals, and ev...

I grew up hunting in one of these clubs on the river, and I would probably rank the hunting above south Texas and the Midwest. It is hard to explain what it feels like hunting on those river islands. However, as much as I miss it, I couldn’t go back to dealing with all of the drama in those clubs. T...

Opinions on the Millennium Buck Hut

My family wants to add several box stands for next year. A few us mainly bow hunt, but most of our guests rifle hunt. Has anybody used these for either bow or rifle? They look like they would be a good option versus the loud plastic box stands. My main concern is how well they will hold up. Thanks f...

A few years ago, a farmer from the MS Delta tried to pass off an Illinois preserve buck as the new Mississippi state record. He concocted an elaborate story how he killed it at Catfish point. The whole story didn’t add up to other club members, and the game and fish guys proved it wasn’t a MS deer t...

My Dad is still waiting to hear about his duck hunt in Saskatchewan too. Hopefully they will open up before the season gets here. I have thought about hunting with Mike in Illinois, but it has been hard to resist his TX hunts. It’s unreal how many big bucks you can see on each hunt. ...

I know what you mean about the trophy fees in Texas. Mike still doesn’t do that. You will pay 5500 for any buck up to 170. I think he had a 200” killed in Iowa and Illinois last year. He doesnt overhunt his properties at all. I went on a guided hunt in Illinois with a different outfitter, and he had...

I would call Mike Stroff at SOE hunts. He has hunts in TX, Illinois, and Iowa. Last week he had two spots open up for a hunt at the Grigsby farm in Illinois. You won’t find a better outfitter. He personally returns every phone call, and he works really hard to put you on big bucks. I have hunted wit...
I made it to one million at 34. Every million after that has gotten a little easier. I always assumed that I would want to quit once I hit a certain number, but I enjoy my work more than ever. I guess when all of the financial pressures of private schools, teenagers, paying for houses are gone, I wa...

I just read your message about wanting a meat hunt. I think SOE hunts does an axis meat hunt for 750.00 including lodging and meals. I will definitely kill an axis next fall when I am hunting with SOE. I have heard the meat is really good. ...

I would look at SOE hunts in Uvalde. I have been on two whitetail hunts with them, and I can’t say enough good things about them. They have great accommodations, and they treat you like family. They are loaded with monster whitetails, and they have a ton of Axis deer. Good luck...

Mtb, That is pretty cool. My family land is on the river in Issaquena county at Fitler, and my wife’s family land is between Winona and Vaiden. I do enjoy hunting MS, but the quality and number of bucks in south Texas is unreal. Good luck this season....
