401K Loan vs. Withdrawal
Posted by Agro70 on 6/3/24 at 4:27 pm
I have about $10,000 in credit card debt that I am trying to pay off. I have excel spreadsheet crunched the numbers and with my salary and my current bills I am left with just enough to pay on the card and the interest and not really make the depth go down any. I don't have the opportunity to work OT at my job BUT I work 40 hours every week and that is not changing unless I change jobs so I have pretty consistent money coming in.
I have just under $200,000 in a 401K through my job. I am no where close to retirement age so any money I take out of the 401K is going to be taxed and fees taken out. I read online that I can withdraw early from my 401K as long as I realize I will get hit with a fee and taxed on the amount come next tax season. Or I can do a 401K loan and pay myself back over time, but honestly this option just feels like moving my debt pile to another pile and not really paying it off.
So I figured I can take $15,000 out of the 401K, use the $5,000 for fees and eventual taxes and use the remaining $10,000 to pay off the debt and begin using that money, I would have been paying into the credit card, to go into savings. Also with how much I contribute, I figured will make back the $15,000 in the 410K quickly and will not miss it come glorious retirement day.
Right now I see that as my best option but I figure there has to me another risk I am not thinking about, so what is it?

If you want to try something different for a dinner experience, look up a place that does Raclette cheese. My wife and I went to France a few years back and found a whole in the wall Raclette place and had a great evening eating that with some wine out in the patio. Cheese, meat and potatoes. cant go wrong with that.

Sounds like you fixed the problem already. But I have the same issue with Hulu live on my firestick. I also have a Roku stick on anther TV and I have never had an issue with buffering. Same WIFI signal and strength, just different devices. I have been thinking about switching to only Roku too.

I did not see where you said what part of Germany you will be going to. My wife and I took our honeymoon to south Germany 6 years ago. I can't talk about the Covid restrictions but I can suggest some things.
If you are staying in Munich check out the Glockenspiel. Every hour the figurines do a performance and there is a pretty nice restaurant underneath it. There is also an old church across the street you can climb to the top and get a great view of the city.
I saw someone else say this but go see Neuschwanstein Castle. It is driving/bus distance from Munich. And I was told it was the inspiration for the Disney Castle.
I HIGHLY recommend you rent a car for at least 1 day and drive on the Autobahn. You dont need any special drivers license and they have the same rules of the road we do. In fact you can do what we did and combine that with going to the castle.
Take a trip to the Rhine Falls. Its basically Europe's Niagara falls.
From Munich you can also go to Hitler's Eagle's Nest. If you are into history it is a must to go see. Also it has amazing views of the German/Austrian mountains, so go on a clear day.
One last thing if, eat the pork knuckle. You will not be disappointed.

How to make Cracklin crunchy?
Posted by Agro70 on 1/20/22 at 7:21 am
I need help finishing my homemade cracklins. Every time I make a batch they come out either soft or burnt. I like a thick cut cracklin that's crunchy on the outside but meaty and soft on the inside. I cut the pork belly thick, fry them at 200 DegF for 1.5 hours, I take them out to cool, usually season them then, I get the oil up to 375 DegF, then fry them again for 5 or so minutes (Any longer and they burn), then take them out and season them one last time. I keep a close eye on them to make sure they are done but every time I take hem out after that second fry they are not crunchy. Any thoughts? What am I doing wrong here?
Hulu Live Recording
Posted by Agro70 on 9/3/20 at 9:25 am
Anyone else have this issue? When I'm watching Hulu live and I hit record on a show I'm watching cuz I have to leave before finishing, it puts the show in "My Stuff" category automatically. Which then means Hulu records every episode of this show going further.
I can search the show and remove it from "My Stuff" later but its a real hassle to do this every time. Its real annoying when I'm watching a marathon of a certain TV show and want to record just one episode and I come back to my DVR filled with the entire day of the show recorded.
How do I just record the one show and that's it? Note, I'm also using a Firestick and the Hulu App to watch TV.

People all over Houston say "Bye-Yo" and those people are just wrong.

Pro-tip if using a bamboo roller. Wrap it in plastic wrap and poke a few holes in it to vent. It will save you from getting rice stuck in the roller.

Favorite sauce to use is Sweet Soy Glaze. Can find it at most Oriental Food stores. Its a think black sauce with the consistency of maple syrup.
Also you can easily make your own spicy mayo by mixing sriracha, mayo and sesame oil. You can make it to taste or go online to find the proportions. In my opinion the right sauce can make or break a sushi roll.

Kenai Peninsula

Me and some family members are headed to the Kenai Peninsula for a week long fishing trip. We will have at least one day to ourselves to do some sight seeing. Anyone have recommendations for what to do for a day around Kenai or Soldotna?

To add to my previous post, the Peerless distillery just sent me an email saying they plan to release their first bourbon in 102 years this June.

Check out Woodfords Reserve Distillery, Bulleit and Wild Turkey distilleries for the old classic distillery tour feel. Those are the best tours for the great look and history.
If you want a newer distillery experience check out Peerless Distillery in downtown Louisville. It has some great family history on the tour.
And if you want something off the beaten path and have the time, I highly recommend checking out Jeptha Creed. Their tour will let you fill some of the barrels yourself and they have an amazing bar room.

Going for a friends wedding in their hometown. Any suggestions on things to do or places you must go to grab a bite to eat? I know they have a casino close by.
re: Got one question about the white walkers?

Read a theory Online that says the Night King was created to control the White Walkers and thus be able to create them. So it would make sense if they all created and not really born then the would all look a like.

Did anyone notice the voice on the mp3 in the second episode was the podcast GOAT Dan Carlin? Though that was a great touch.

Same here. Show is great. Almost has a cartoon-y black mirror vibe. Hope they make more.
