Hey bud, in my humble opinion, here are a few better suggestions.
•Pick them up at the airport and get them checked in
•Hop on the streetcar and roll down to Hot Tin rooftop bar for some good cocktails with a view; could also hit up a slew of other great bars like Delachaise, Avenue Pub, or Cooter Brown’s (depending on their style/tastes)
•Definitely scratch Mulate’s as many have noted. If price is no issue, I’d recommend Restaurant Revolution/GW Fins/Galatoire’s. Cheaper but great options are Peche, Felix’s, or even Borgne/Jack Rose
•Preservation Hall is a good time, especially if they just want a taste of jazz music; if they want to dive in, then send them to Frenchman and hit up dba, Cafe Negril, and Blue Nile
•Avoid the hurricanes and hand grenades; they’re shite drinks for tourists; get them good New Orleans cocktails like a Sazerac, French 75, etc.
•Take then to Cafe DuMonde downtown or to Morning Call in City Park for breakfast the next morning (or for late night on Friday if you’re downtown); another suggestion would be Stanley’s or Court of Two Sisters jazz brunch buffet and sit outside in the courtyard

That's exactly right. According to the proposed regulations, the gift must be given by 11:59pm on Monday, August 27th. I sent my donation to ACE by wire transfer. I'm sure people could certify mail a donation check too.

I tend to think it will be around for a while. Worst thing they could do is likely cap it, which probably isn’t a terrible thing, as long as the cap makes sense. I’ll pay 3-4%, at worst, to know my tax dollars are being spent on something useful and impactful.

You could be right on this. Once something good like this comes around, the state has the propensity to botch it by tinkering with it. Although, it doesn’t make sense for them to cap it, since it arguably saves them money. Also, they’d have to have the votes in committee to come after this program. Don’t think that’s the case as of right now.

In looking at this, this credit actually saves the state money. According to the legislation on this credit, the programs are limited in how much they can give a child for a scholarship. The max value of the scholarship is 10-20% less than what the state is on the hook for when a kid goes to public school.

So it's a cost savings to the state and a kid in poverty goes to the school of the parent's choice. Not to mention the financial benefit to a taxpayer.

Actually looks like you are coming out ahead, since you are getting the federal deduction.

For every $1,000 a person donates, that person gets a $950 income tax credit, plus a charitable deduction on his federal tax return equal to whatever his fed tax rate is.

Sounds like worst case is that it’s a 3-4% fee to essentially direct your state tax liability to kids in poverty to attend the schools of their choice.
