re: Hiring Brian Kelly

Posted by nwallb2 on 12/28/25 at 2:44 am to
There were reasons to think it may work. But no one except some Notre Dame people were saying he’d mailed it in. And he really did seem to care less and less every year he was here. We essentially gave him a golden parachute for his retirement. I doubt he works again. He used us big time LOL
Yes very little known fact. Brad Davis was the interim in 2021 and got tight with Woodward before BK was hired. Was Woodward’s mole the entire BK tenure. Would not let Kelly fire him.
Honestly even if he fails there, I think he will get another job because that is a hard place to win and he’s already proved his coaching chops with some decent seasons there.
If Durham wants to play closer to home that’s one thing and I understand it, especially if he plays in Morris’s offense with Mestemaker.
Yeah one bad season and they fired Mullen. Lots of close losses in that season too. They do not have serious people in charge there. They make poor hires (Napier) and then when they do make good hires they run them out of town after one down year (Urban and Dan Mullen).
I’d prefer Meatball. He’d stay as long as we’d have him. He loves LSU. Also a good coach and recruiter.

re: Will Muschamp to Texas as DC

It’s also well known Will Muschamp highly covets the Texas job and was once the head coach in waiting behind Mack Brown before Florida hired him. I wonder if this is less of a Sark move and more of a Texas move because they know Sark may be looking to jump to the NFL soon and Texas wants someone on staff who could be the HC, in case Sark leaves or is fired for whatever reason.
They should not let him coach the team anymore. He may very well be tampering with the current roster.
Cain is the most gettable but he also won’t be available till late January or February
He will probably average 7-8 wins a year. I think he’s a good guy, but I just don’t see him at the level of Fritz or Sumrall as a coach. I think the AD needs to go more than anyone else.
Giving him that massive guaranteed contract at 60 years old was our mistake. The Notre Dame people had been complaining about how he was less involved in his later years there. Was already beginning to check out. They were happy to be rid of him and surprised we gave him that much money.
Maybe the position coaches will be good but those are not good coordinator hires
Ole Miss fans and media going crazy doing emergency podcasts and putting out articles that this is tampering and they are going to turn LSU into NCAA.
I just think fit there is more important than anything. You need to find a guy who’s defensive oriented. Michigan has been successful but does it in a specific way. If only Les was still coaching, he’d be perfect for them.
Bateman and Sloan have to be two of the worst play calling coordinators in the SEC. If Stein is smart they will not last long in Lexington.

re: Michigan legit candidates

It ends on December 31, 2025, I believe.
Remind me what that means? He can’t recruit for a year or something?
Hire Jesse Minter. He’s an elite DC and would immediately give their team an identity again.
They can but they don’t have the right coach right now. Nebraska is also just a hard job. They have to compete with so many powers in the region. Theyre like Ole Miss to LSU Bama and Georgia. They have NIL resources it’s just hard to recruit there going against so many other regional powers. It takes a really smart coach who knows how to evaluate talent to succeed there. Look what happens to Ole Miss now that Lane is gone. Also when Mississippi State lost Dan Mullen they’ve never been the same. Elite coaches are needed to elevate those types of programs. Matt Rhule is not.
He’s a decent coach but nothing special. He will get fired at Nebraska eventually because they expect to compete with the big boys in their conference and that’ll never happen with Matt Rhule.
