Back in the 90s, a friends girlfriend actually DROVE the wrong Toyota Corolla home after a night out in Tigerland, same car same color, keyed the same... woke up the next morning, was like WTF this is not my stuff in the car, drove it back to Sports and got her car..

LOL.. it is as if no one realizes that college football is now just a big corporate business.. the roster this year is 40-50 mil.. no 4 or 5 star is coming unless we pay them a ton of money, then they are not staying unless we pay them more (and meet other demands such as jersey numbers :dunno:)... the days of just coming to LSU because you loved the school are over, there will always be $$$$$ and other promises attached... you know maybe CBK did not issue number 5 to anyone and CLK had to do a "lot of research" before he did was because they thought "it was only a number" and it would give the impression that "someone is bigger than the program" :dunno: :dunno:.. that being said JD5 should have just been mad behind the scenes and I am sure LSU promised it was a 1 time deal to issue it to DJ.. but these type of things are going to be more prevalent now that the players are making so much money and can just transfer on a whim if demands are not met

That cop is gonna get fired.. not for pulling him over.. but for all the "your fat" insults he started when he was losing the argument... doubt that is anywhere in the de-escalation training.

This is the only correct answer, only one on the list who actually never did anything good at LSU, then snitched on Dale and all the boosters when all they did was help him....how Roy Williams came away unscathed at the time when he recruited a player on another roster is baffling.

The program is what's important and it's bigger than any player's stupid number. And as the HC you should operate that way.
So why not just tell recruits and current players this exact thing and assign them whatever number LSU wants ? what would be the issue with that ?

If you retired every number for players who won national awards you would have 5 players wearing the same number or some shite! So frick what Jayden Daniels is talking about!
LOL.. National Awards?? so the Heisman is now some random "National Award" ? there are 90 Heisman winners ever in over a million eligible athletes since its inception.. LSU has exactly 3 of them.. The 1st LSU Heisman winners number is retired, The 2nd LSU Heisman winner is on record as saying he was told by LSU the number would not be issued... The 3rd Heisman winner.. do you think he was told the same thing as the 2nd? or is he just mad for no reason ??.. ... Now should have JD5 handled this 100% behind closed doors yes.. should have DJ continued to wear 3 yes... they are both to blame... It definitely appears LSU made 2 different "promises" and chose to honor the one to the Soph so he would not transfer
quote:
Well, we know one of those things is true. The other is what if conjecture on your part.
Accurate at this point, but it does not take a lot of effort to read in between the lines here and figure out what really happened...there was definitely a reason CBK did not issue Pickett 5 last year.. the 1st LSU Heisman winners number is retired, the 2nd LSU Heisman winner is on record saying he was told by LSU they would not issue his number.. The 3rd LSU Heisman winner was told them same as the 2nd? or is he just upset over nothing ?..what makes sense ?
I'd prefer they come up with a policy to not promise recruits things like a jersey number.
quote:
Seems to be honoring a promise more than a demand. But maybe honoring your word isn’t that important to you.
What if LSU promised JD5 to not issue #5?? .. But maybe honoring your word to Heisman trophy winners isn't that important to you... especially if you have a Soph demanding something else
quote:
If it was a new demand, sure. It isn’t. He was promised the number during his recruitment. We should honor that promise.
Then we should never do it again.
Fair point.. this has not been handled well by anyone.. I just don't get why there is not equal blame going around here... JD5 and DJ were both promised something.. DJ could have stood down, JD5 could have stood down..DJ has the leverage to leave if he doesn't get what he wants and used it.. JD5 really had no leverage to do anything other than what he did.. Yes JD5 should have kept it close and just been mad behind the scenes and he definitely got bad advice there.. Don't understand how the "its only a number" argument only applies to the Heisman trophy winner and not the Soph, that makes no sense.... Also LSU could have came out and said something acknowledging that 2 promises were made... lastly why is it a good idea as a program to give into demands of current players or recruits if the LSU brand is bigger than any one player

Seems like the Sophomore got exactly what he demanded...maybe that is the precedent here.. come to LSU and they will honor all demands to keep you from transferring

frick JD . Kissing his arse will only make this problem worse for future players. You’re basically telling them it’s ok to be a spoiled brat.
Instead we are going to bow down to HS kids when they make demands such as jersey numbers?...you understand what really happened here ...LSU didn't want to give him 5, but were forced to because he was threatening to leave...that is the real story, but iof course they can't say that publicly since he is a starting CB who was a 5 star recruit...if it were Sage Ryan wanting 5 after his freshman year, there would have been no discussion, promise or not during recruiting..... Maybe LSU needs to make all these recruiting promises public so the posters hold them accountable

LOL...100% his issue.. CBK gave him #3 for a reason.. and when discussing his return to LSU this year , Jersey number was the negotiation

Correct, that is why I was referencing an article, that said the jersey number was the return to LSU negotiation point not money, but then you somehow turned it into they possibly were negotiating money for the jersey
quote:
This is what they call conjecture. Unless you were in the room you have no idea what was said.
To answer your question though, find an example below.
Coach:
“This is your $amount to return next year”
Player:
“Tell you what coach just give me my number I was promised and you can keep $100k of it”.
Coach:
“Deal”
Now stop digging your hole deeper.
.. that is comical.. so you think DJ potentially paid 100k for the number??
WTF do you think this means? just curious
Pretty sure I can read, DJs stance was if you want me to return to LSU, I need #5... is there any alternate meaning to the quote above ?.. Now if you are calling Moscona a liar, that is something different.. but if DJ was negotiating his return contingent on him getting #5, that means he was leaving if he did not get #5
quote:
When Pickett was negotiating his contract to return to LSU, money was not the source of the negotiation, but rather the jersey number, LSU sources confirmed.

LINK
LOL. we are letting a 22yo sophomore and his Dad cause all the drama,.. and somehow JD5 and his mom are taking the brunt of this.. also it is easy to read between the lines here.. LK probably told them it was not a good idea to switch to 5, but he called JD5 anyway, JD5 held ground and LK was in a pickle and had to give into the current player.
