re: Best Fried Chicken within 1 1/2 hours of Baton Rouge? - Dave_O
I love the KKC wings. They are great every time I get them, but other cuts are very hit/miss at my local KKC gas station. Great flavor, though. ...

re: What’s on the menu for the 4th of July? - Dave_O
Made some meatballs, seasoned and put them in the smoker for an hour at 180. Took then off, smashed and seared on the Blackstone for burgers. Turned out great. And then there was the pastrami. Bought a 3.5 lb corned brisket at Sam’s yesterday. Soaked it in water overnight to take some of the...

Building my own pergola - Dave_O
Have any of you ever built your own pergola? I’ve got a 15x10’ pad off of my screened in back porch that I’d like to cover with a pergola. Any of you have any plans or tips for me? I’m a pretty novice builder. I guess I’d need a transit to get the proper grade on the canopy? Ive built a wood fence b...

re: Hot Tamales - Dave_O
I’ve heard good things about the tamales at the Donut Shop. I grew up in Natchez and have had donuts from there countless times, but never had the tamales while I lived there. I live in the Jackson area now, and I usually ride over to Vicksburg to get Solly’s. ...

re: Smoked Leg Quarters - Dave_O
I put some smoked chicken in my dumplings when I attempted to make it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t that noticeable to me, but, to be fair, I picked a pretty crappy C&D recipe to begin with. ...
somewhat more expensive than I remember them being a month ago
Yes. A couple of months ago, a prime whole packer went for $3.48/lb at the Sams in Madison. Went in there a week or so ago, prime whole packers were $6.05/lb. ...

re: WFDT - Dave_O
Smoked some burgers on the Rec-Tec and finished them off on the griddle. Also did some hot dogs and cheese quesadillas for the kids. My little girl decided to combine the two, and I must admit, it was pretty damn tasty. [img][URL=http://s346.photobucket.com/user/davidhood2013/media/Mobile%20Uplo...

re: WFDT - Dave_O
Fired up the Blackstone again for chicken and steak fajitas for my family. We are having a “luau” for the residents at the nursing home where I work, so I volunteered to smoke a pork butt for sliders tomorrow since I had the day off today. [img][URL=http://s346.photobucket.com/user/davidhood2013...

re: Please recommend me a smallish tree - Dave_O
Here is a different view of my yard. It’s not “super” low lying, but pretty low as far as my yard is concerned. [img][IMG]http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p417/d...

Please recommend me a smallish tree - Dave_O
So I’ve had, what I think, is some version of an oak tree in my front yard since I’ve moved into my house 5 years ago. I noticed this spring that only about 20% of it was “greening”. I finally dug it up today. I’ve got pics below. It’s roughly 6’ tall, and the hole I dug is probably 12” in diameter....
