Love SOAD.

One of the most underrated bands every time. Their style was absolutely unique and for a band that had success, nobody could copy or duplicate it.

Serj was also one of the most unique voices in rock ever. He's blown out his voice and doesn't have the same range any more, but his prime...well, you couldn't mistake him for anyone else.

I'd have them very high up the list of metal groups and I can't think of a band comparable to them stylistically.

Would the men who fought in WW2 think we won the war if they looked at the current state of the west? The typical boomer answer is "We aren't speaking German" but communism has spread worldwide and has a stronghold within our nations, we have no control over our domestic and foreign policy other than sending money to be laundered through Ukraine and into Israel, our borders are open to the point where the most common baby name in the UK (the most hardlined country against the Germans, other than Russia during Barbarosa) is now Mohammad. Is this better than the alternative?

It's really hard to answer an incoherent question.

It seems like you're asking if it would have been better if the other side had won WWII.

There's a pretty simple answer to that one. No.

Maybe he can add more shitty CGI to the OT.

You can hate disney but let’s not pretend like Lucas was batting 1.000 before he sold it.

George knew exactly what people wanted to see with the prequels.

If people had wanted to see legendary badass Darth Vader lovesick and rolling around in a bed of flowers, then complaining about how sand gets everywhere and then capping it by screaming NOOOOO into the sky.

That is sarcasm because nobody actually wanted to see that. The prequels might be the worst depiction of a love story in movies ever. First, it's creepy because Anakin goes from Padme as almost an older sister in PM to being super horny for her at the beginning of Clones. Then it's super sappy drivel. Then it goes from sappy to him violently choking her because he had a bad dream in the last 30-45 min of Sith.

and let's not forget that George brought us the prequel trilogy which, while better than the current garbage, is still garbage. time and subsequent other terrible Star Wars content has softened our memories of the prequels, but they suck too. go watch the Plinkett reviews as a reminder if you need to.

I'm not sure the prequels are better than current. Just in the rebooted era, I liked Rogue One and Solo better than any of the prequels.

You're dead on that time has softened the views of the prequels. Attack of the Clones is a terrible movie. Phantom Menace has some decent scenes mixed with deadly boring portions and the stuff like Jar Jar that's just childish. Revenge is the only half decent movie in the bunch.

Lucas isn't saving anything. What's the last legitimately good movie or IP he generated? It's been a bit and you just don't turn the switch on and off.

See, this is buried at the end.

The ultimate difference between the groups appears to be 3 LB over a year. I'm less than convinced 3 LB exerts an incredibly healthy effect.

It's not a bad thing, for sure, but that conclusion also hints at some of the potential negative effects and the potential to offset them.

The takeaway should be moderate consumption of diet soda isn't terrible, but it isn't healthier than water.

I'm not trying to pick a fight or put words in your mouth. I'm just saying that all this study says is quantifying an obvious thing.

Resistance training is good.

Also, there's really no reason to compare to cardio (not aiming at you). Too much of fitness is just getting overly complicated.

Resistance training = good. Cardio = good. There's the real meta-analysis.

no one had ever seen the way Saving Private Ryan portrayed the d day invasion and the sheer horror it must have been for those landing that day

Saving Private Ryan is the most visceral depiction of WWII ever. I remember seeing in the theaters and realizing I hadn't moved a muscle during the entire last 75% of the D-Day scene.

Beyond that, it's hard to pick because there are so many sides to the war.

Possibly unpopular opinion...the opening drop scene in Overlord is actually a really good depiction of war in an otherwise meh movie.
No reason to overcomplicate it or make it an either/or, IMO.

Resistance training is very good for you in many ways. Having a healthy heart is also very good for you in many ways.

Resistance training can actually provide cardio benefits, but as you age, the reality is that there isn't a reason to pick one or the other.

The Road is a great pick.

I think it is pretty safe to say the Blood Meridian movie they are trying to make would be tough to rewatch if it’s anything like the novel.

Look, any movie based on a Cormac McCarthy book is probably going to be good...and also soul crushing.

Also, I enjoy a more dickish, evil Godzilla, which this one had.

I kept wondering if they were going to give Godzilla some motivation or shades of being a good guy.

Nope, he was just there to **** stuff up and leave.

Pretty legit movie overall. Not at all a monster fight movie like the recent US theater versions. Actually pretty good character building with Godzilla there as a pure antagonist.

This. Great movie. You'd have to tie me up to get me to watch it again.

re: Candidate For Worst Movie Ever

Worst mainstream movie I've seen is Alien vs Predator: Requiem. The acting is terrible, the plot is predictable, but the worst part is how dark the movie is. Not dark in tone. Dark as in you can't see 3/4 of the stuff going on on the screen because there's no fricking lighting.

Worst random movie is Vampires vs Zombies. I figured how bad could it be with vampires and zombies? Basically nothing happens but some people driving in a car at 5 mpg that occasionally see zombies, then pick up some hitchhiker who might be a vampire or it might be a dream.

The only thing that stands out is they pull the car over at some point and there's a really explicit lesbian sex scene that goes on for 2 min, but it's hard to understand why it's in the movie other than to just be a sex scene.

Wikipedia link to prove this exists.

Russia is infamous for trading space and bodies for time.

Napoleon fricking up was bad but Hitler doing it was worse. He actually caught the Russians off guard because their spies had no indication that the Germans were making preparations to deal with Russian winter, which worked up until they got to winter and the German offensive stalled.

My only quibble is that Hitler was short on resources to maintain occupation of the rest of Europe and needed Russia's oil to try to hold off the expected Allied invasion from Britain.

I generally see that as more justification than Napoleon had. Napoleon's invasion was more just to invade.

But look, small quibble, both were disastrous.
Underrated one that hasn't been mentioned is Napoleon attempting to invade Russia.

He went from basically in control of continental Europe to suffering a catastrophic defeat and exiled (twice, last one permanent) within 2 years.

Lesson being, don't try to invade Russia. Hitler didn't learn that lesson.

Horror movie with the well known aliens. Doesn't appear to have any meaningful place in the story at all.

I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I was OK with Prometheus and even Covenant, but the worst parts of those movies were driven by trying to make the movie fit a larger story.

They both got overly complicated and internally inconsistent because they had to fit the larger plot narrative.

My hope for this one is by being outside the larger story, it can be a simple, straightforward, claustrophobic horror movie. Being based on the Isolation video game is a good start. It doesn't have to rock my world or set a new standard, just being simple and effective would put it on a path to be the 3rd best movie in the franchise.

There are only so many directions you can go with Alien. It's always going to be some version of a smallish group in an isolated location getting picked off by the xenonorph.

It's hard to make an Alien romantic comedy. Every Alien movie is just going to be some variation of the above setup and the quality is going to be determined by the execution.

a horror type film of a diverse cast just trying to survive.

I mean, that's the strength of the Alien franchise. I don't hate Aliens, but the bread and butter is a bunch of people trying to survive vs an unstoppable killing machine.

It's a franchise made for what this movie looks like, a small group of people trapped with an alien. That's not a guarantee it will be good, but definitely not a bad setup for an Alien movie.
I'll say, the thing isn't that there aren't good bands today. It's that in the 90's, the bands you noted hit the mainstream.

Today, rock isn't that impactful in the mainstream. What's mainstream has changed, and finding good rock isn't like it was in the 90's where you just flipped on the radio.

Good rock still exists today, but it's much more on the listener to seek and find.
