Eh, by the mid 1970s even they could not keep a lid on the crime surge. Places in the Bronx and Brooklyn were almost ungovernable

I just discovered “Martyr Made” in the last year. I’m finishing “Fear and loathing in the New Jeruselam”.
I’ll check that out.

It absolutely was.
Overall I think the mafia era was a good time. They policed their own and kept New York civil in a way. It’s a weird dichotomy.

Yep, they predicted this in The Sopranos when Pat Parisi and someone else tried to offer protection to a Starbucks.(I think it was a Starbucks, could’ve been a different corporation)
I love the podcasts. Mike Franzese, Sammy Gravano, Joey Merlino, all super interesting first hand accounts of mob life. The comments are fun too. People calling them rats, except Joey Merlino. That guy didn’t give up anything from what I can tell.

So what did you get?
Stagg and an Elijah Craig toasted single barrel store pick. Not mad.
I’m real happy with this one. Probably blew my load early. But I like Elijah Craig and I’m no bourbon expert.

Here’s what I’m looking at:
Stagg is definitely on my list. That 18 year Elijah Craig is up there as well. Based on that list I shouldn’t come away empty handed regardless.
I was living in Pike Road when they built that store. All hate for the ABC aside, it’s a good store. It’s about an hour’s drive for me now, but it gives the frau a chance to go to Costco and that overpriced pita place next door.

How does this work?
The State government of Alabama holds a monopoly on liquor sales in the state. All liquor must pass the hands of daddy government. Each quarter they hold a sweepstakes where, if you get drawn, you can buy allocated liquor at a decent price. I’ve been entering for the past few years and just got drawn.
There’s people on this board that know a lot more about it than I do and can probably correct me.

I happened to read your post as I had storm trackers up on my TV looking for tornadoes and didn’t notice the link. Priorities and all. Thanks again, I’ll check it out.

Thank You
I haven’t seen the list of what each location is allocated, but obviously going to go and see. Hoping some people slip up ahead of me.

Alabama ABC sweepstakes

Alabama folks,
I got drawn for the ABC allocated liquor sweepstakes/buy. Eastchase in East Montgomery location. I’m #35 in line.
Probably a stupid question, but does anyone have any idea what I can expect to get a shot at? Pappy any year? Stagg jr? Elmer T?
Just curious if anyone has had their number called and what they ended up with.

Minor league baseball is tits. I used my first born’s stroller to sneak a 12 pack of coors into a Little Rock Travelers game. We sat on the berm. It was the beginning of my love of minor league baseball.

Full face breathing mask. Pure nitrogen. Over.
This would be an easy way to go. Oddly enough, I’ve had an airtight mask strapped to my face with nitrogen pumped in. You lose your faculties in short time.
I did this for hypoxia training in the Air Force. When I first got in they used an actual altitude chamber. Guess those got too expensive idk. I will say I feel like arse after the nitrogen breathe compared to the actual chamber.

re: What are you getting/doing for your wife for Valentine’s Day?
Posted by HerkFlyer on 2/12/25 at 10:35 pm
My frau gets mad when I spend money on shite for her on Valentine’s Day. Corporate holidays aren’t welcome in this household. She does appreciate the random bouquet/spa day throughout the year. The costs probably offset, but she prefers random surprises without the gay holidays.

She just realized yesterday because she hasn’t been doing shite “from home”. Perfect example of the amount of worthless GS employees(I used to be one, but I actually had to work.) that are currently on the take. We used to joke about the amount of government employees at our base. We called them “middle class welfare recipients”. Here’s your 80 grand a year to do nothing.
