Crazy Johnnie’s Review/opinion
Posted by Skippy1013 on 5/2/25 at 8:23 pm
I used to go to this famous establishment 25 years ago. It closed and as many know, they re-opened and are trying to re-create the old popular place.
So, I was in Metairie on Wednesday and decided to check it out.
As before, a short, basic menu of the 8oz Filet, the Filet po-boy, grilled fish, BBQ shrimp and a couple of other things. I got the house special, the Filet Mignon with Crazy potatoes and as an appetizer, the BBQ shrimp.
Unfortunately, the potatoes were the best part of the meal. The steak was a low end cut that seemed more like a sirloin than a filet mignon. The shrimp were over cooked, probably by being placed in the almost boiling hot sauce and were almost impossible to peel. The sauce was a bit overpowering, but I know lots of people like it.
The service was fine, but he was obviously inexperienced and overwhelmed.
Overall, it’s about a 6.0 out of 10.

I watch this show a lot. What amazes me is the large percentage of air disasters caused by pilot error. Like a very, very large percentage!
re: Some Advice for Boomers With Tariff Anxiety

Jealousy is not a trait you want to have controlling you life. The Boomer generation had lots of things to overcome, just as the current generations do.
All of the things you mentioned, this older generation already did, and it payed off.
Maybe one day it could for you if you change your attitude.

re: Anyone using the wash sale rule during this market drop?
Posted by Skippy1013 on 4/6/25 at 7:58 pm
I find the best way to do this is to sell S&P 500 ETF if you have it and by a Total Market ETF, thus avoiding the “Wash Sale”, but still getting back into the “market”. These 2 ETF do not meet the “substantially similar” test.

The RoundUp 360 is pretty good. Sometimes hard to find.
re: Need help picking a color for roof shingles
Posted by Skippy1013 on 4/5/25 at 7:10 am
The first thing I would do before deciding on the color is to request your roofer to use a different shingle.
Do some research and you will find that GAF is not a good shingle compared to others . They sell a lot of their products through Home Depot and Lowe’s and cut corners to keep the price down at the retail level. Roofers can get wholesale pricing from distributors on much better products.
Look at either Atlas Shingles, Owens Corning or Malarkey.

In my day, a shouting match and a fistfight might happen, now it’s death by stabbing.
re: How much stock have y’all bought over the last 2 days?

I swapped out some money, but no added money. I sold some S&P 500 Index ETF shares and used the proceeds to buy Nvidia and SoFi
re: Mortgage Rates and the 10 Year Treasury Yield

A good rule of thumb is to take the 10 year and add 2%, and that's what you can usually get a 30 year mortgage for.
Removing Palms from 20’ Palm Trees damaged by the freeze
Posted by Skippy1013 on 4/3/25 at 5:58 pm
Is it necessary to have all of these dead palms removed or will they fall out naturally as new growth pushes on them? These trees are 20’ tall and I would have to hire a professional, figuring about $75 per tree.
The Definition of Ironic or is it Hypocrisy?

At the same time that the Democrats are crying that tariffs are like a tax, every one of them voted no in the House 2 weeks ago to theTrump tax plan and extension.
In reality they should love tariffs, because they love taxes.

Election Integrity needs to be the #1 priority
Posted by Skippy1013 on 4/3/25 at 2:49 pm
I like almost everything being done in these first few months of the new administration. However it will all be for nothing if the Democrats regain control of the House, Senate in 2 years or the White House in 4 years.
The #1 priority should be to solve the election integrity issues nationwide to be sure that stolen elections can never happen again.
We need consistent polling operational rules, times that voting is allowed, types of tabulation machines used, deadlines for having the final counts, challenge and appeal rules, absentee and mail in consistency rules and so on.
All States and jurisdictions need to be under the same rules for all Federal Elections!

Make him use a vacation day if he has any. It's not a sick day, so I would not allow that. If he has not vacation time, don't pay him for that day and tell him that situations like this cannot happen again.

re: Pool skimmer waste

Long ago, in a land far, far away, a receptacle was invented and was named a “garbage can”. I keep mine near my pool that I line with those large contractor garbage barges from Home Depot. It’s one of those heavy duty Rubbermaid “Brute” types with a lid, cost $31 at Home Depot.

On #5, I think they want to get away from Denmark because they are being ignored. I believe just the fact that they are part of Denmark makes them ultra liberal, just because they know of no other way. After they get their payoff from us, they will surely make unreasonable demands and side with the left.

I also this it does not make much sense:
1) if we want military bases there, I’m sure we can negotiate leases to do so.
2) we cannot afford it, we are trying to cut spending.
3) we will have to support the people who live there because they will expect a standard of living as being part of the USA.
4) we want to dump Puerto Rico because they take from us with little in return, so why do another similar situation.
5) being part of Denmark, I’m sure those people are ultra liberal, we don’t need more of the (same with Canada).
6) regarding minerals, that’s a sham. We have all of the rare earth minerals we will ever need right now in the USA, but the environmental kooks will not allow us to get them.

What is the reason behind this rule? Seems like it should be changed.
