It did have one of the best opening theme songs in the 90's in my opinion.
But Like others have said, the humor was very hit and miss.
opening theme
However, I always thought one of the relatable sketches to American and Canadian humor was this one...

My kid was born in 2012. Up to today, TPATF is her favorite Disney movie.
I literally watched this last night (not for the first time mind you)...
I came inside after grilling food and drinking outside for a little bit and my wife and 15 year old daughter were posted up in the living room with blankets, so basically I had no choice.
at some point my 15 year old daughter says, "it's sad to say that I don't say it enough how much I loooove this movie!"
She has seen it her whole life and we do a lot of re-watches of old animation style, be it Lion King or Alladin, but even Robin Hood, Fox and the Hound, and all the classics.
You would be surprised how much the teen generation and even my son who is 20 responds to those type of movies. I really wish they would make a comeback.

I'm 45, fat, and unmotivated. I wish I had a buddy of mine that would be like, "hey a-hole, you and me gym buddies starting now". It would help to have a someone that maybe helps you be accountable when you are years out of practice

I thought it was pretty cool. I really liked the guys who did Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, and Chevy Chase, and also Lorne Michaels and Billy Chrystal. I thought they brought a good representation of them.
I also liked some of the staff people behind the scenes like Frankin/Davis, and how it depicted Michael O'Donoghue who was indeed a complete dark and disturbed nut.
It was of course a dramatic take on opening night so I'm sure most of the stuff didn't actually happen, but they wanted to also put some of the known history of those days as part of the overall feel of the show. For instance I don't think Milton Berle hosted the show for another 4 years or so. I doubt he was around that night and but he was indeed a notorious jerk and his episode is considered one of the worst ever and I don't think they even allow it in syndication anymore. Also they kept showing Dan Akroyd doing his Fred Garvin character which also didn't appear for another few years. Again I think this just added extra entertainment and set a tone for the time and groove of the show.
Although it wasn't completely distracting, but I thought it a little weird that they cast Greg from Succession as both Jim Henson AND Andy Kaufmann. Maybe it was a slight tongue in cheek tribute to Andy himself who of course had multiple characters he would portray, but not sure what the actual thought process was with that.

he has a string of great self-deprecating quotes about his own baseball career and success
"When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team's dugout and they were already in street clothes."
"In 1962 I was named Minor League Player of the Year. It was my second season in the bigs."
"I knew when my career was over. In 1965 my baseball card came out with no picture."
"I had a great shoe contract and glove contract with a company who paid me a lot of money never to be seen using their stuff."
"I led the league in go get 'em next time."

re: You're 18-25 - prime partying age - what era do you choose? 60s/70s/80s/90s?
Posted by LSUfan0420 on 11/12/24 at 6:04 pm
it depends on if I was born then or if i had a time machine because of what we know now...
as a late Gen x (early millennial by some charts) born in '80, I was a teenager in the '90's but didn't turn 18 until '98, and that I am history fan, I would totally go to the 70's and see the greatest music of all time and still have weed and the introduction to coke and pre-aids sex scene.
the fear and threat of aids was still a big deal in mid '90's...we still had our parents preaching NO SEX OR DRUGS OR YOU WILL GET AIDS type stuff in school and church, plus don't use condoms because its a SIN !...
however, even though the music in the 90's was cool and all but not like the 70's....specifically early to mid 70's pre-disco. I would have settled down by that time disco came around and got a job and just duck hunted and fished without a license and bought a house and boat and vehicle without a college education like my old man did and everyone else .
60's would be a second choice just because of the music scene but like someone said Vietnam would have scared the shite out of me and all the strife with protests and everything else with political unrest

back when I lived in the woods of North Lake Charles, my redneck uncle next door to me did this 20 years ago during hurricane Rita for his front porch lean-to on his fixed up double wide and it saved it while others in the area with similar setup porches/trailers blew away so its a tried and true method. Good for him for thinking about it !

When I was little I remember asking my dad “What’s your job?”
His response was “I make money.”
I literally thought he made dollar bills and coins.
My mom once said to me in the car while we passed the plants in Lake Charles, that this is where dad makes his bread and butter.
Literally thought dad worked for a bread and butter factory and brought it home for us to eat. Also told my teacher this when asked what my dad does...'he makes bread and butter", hahahaha

Zoolander
i was like 21 when it came out and maybe i was either too drunk/high or not drunk/high enough the first time i watched it but I thought it was sooo dumb!
watched it a second time either sober or in the correct amount of drunk/high and laughed my arse off and have seen it dozens of times since.

thank you for reminding me about this flick !
random story but for my buddies 15th birthday in 95 or 96 we rented this and Braveheart on VHS and must have rewound her topless scene at least 20 times ! after movie we then ran around and played hide and seek outside in the woods till like midnight after this movie probably trying to run off the hormone buildup from that scene
then we watched braveheart and mind was blown even more so wrestled in living room for like an hour !
just brought up an old memory so thought i would say thanks !

re: What do you normally pack for your carry on?
Posted by LSUfan0420 on 5/24/24 at 6:12 pm
just so I understand...i bring a carry on suitcase with my clothes packed that i put in overhead compartment, and then my laptop bag with computer and charger and whatever else i can fit that goes under my seat. I can fit socks, underwear and tshirts in laptop bag and jeans and shirts and other into overhead compartment bag. I fly United for work at least a couple times a month so maybe things are different with other airlines, but i could easily get by with only my overhead compartment bag for at least 3 or 4 days.
like someone else said, why in hell would you wear a hoodie to walk through an airport and/or sit next to a fatass like myself on a plane ? Obviously you don't walk half a mile through Bush Airport in Houston.
Does that little bitty air conditioner on the plane freeze you out that much ? Seems like something bulky you dont need

if you want the best deep dish chicago style pizza you have ever had, there is a place maybe 3 or 4 miles south of I-10 off Mason Road called Big Z's.
Its a hole in the wall sports bar restaurant with some decent draft beer with multiple TV's for a small little place. The regular pizzas are also fantastic, my favorite is the "Godfather" which has some kind of dressing on it and also there is a Greek Pizza but I get the white sauce on the side instead on the pizza itself.
But the Chicago Pizza is awesome, it does take like 45 mins to cook so prepare to drink a few beers and watch some TV but again its a whole in the wall so don't know what you want as far as an experience but I love that place!
Ray's mexican restaurant, also off Mason but maybe a mile South of I10 has best margerittas and food is every bit as good as anything that cost twice as much

literally have seen this movie over 50 times starting when I was 8 in 1988. Wife grew up watching it as well so introduced our daughter to it and she loves it as well.
Wife and I make little quotes to each other at least once a week depending on situations. "Nothing dirty now" I will yell when they are picking out a movie to watch, or wife will say about me "oh, the poet laureate of dogwood lane" when someone tells her I said something should be done a certain way. Tons of other examples but we quote that movie all the time.

even a character you were not supposed to like, Robin Colcord, or the upstairs restaurant owner, or even Gary from Gary's Old Town Tavern, all were still likely in their own way
