re: 1989- Great Year in Music

Hahahahahahaha! 100% legit. Nice pull Cdawg. And yeah I'm serious about that Badlands record.
2nd time seeing Death Angel. They were great but just six songs. So it goes for a festival set. 5th time seeing Exodus. Dukes brought it. They crushed. Really happy with the setlist. Gwar closing out night three. Dillinger Escape Plan earlier was absolutely bananas.

Greatest hard rock album of the '80s came out in '89

Down has been doing this for years.

That makes sense then. I wasn't familiar. The idea is cool. I was mostly sick of seeing Scott Ian Jr for like the 4th time in two days.
Down headlined day one. First time seeing them and they kicked arse. I've seen Superjoint at the same venue and also Pantera on the Cowboys tour in 1990 opening for Exodus snd Suicidal Tendencies when Phil stage dived on me.

On the main stage I also saw Chimaira, Rotting Christ and the SOD tribute Stormbreeders of Death with Jamey Jasta, Dan Lilker, Scott Ian, and Scott's 13 year old kid Rev on the drums. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. But it seems Ian's really trying to push his kid's music career as he played with his own hardcore band X-Comm at the pre party show on Thursday night. Then the whole X-Comm band came out and jammed with Down at the end of "Bury Me in Smoke" to close out the night which I thought was kind of stupid.

Side stage highlights were Fugitive with Blake Ibanez from Power Trip and Seth Gilmore the current PT vocalist. DC grind band No/Mas put on a fairly chaotic set on the smaller bar stage. They're tight as a drum. I also caught most of Norwegian black metal band Endslaved's set which was excellent.

All together I saw 11 bands. There was some overlap but I saw most everyone's full set. Day two's headliner is Black Label Society. Devin Townsend and Between the Buried and Me are also on the main stage. I'll be downstairs for Exodus, Death Angel, and 3 Inches of blood. Kicking off the day with NOLA "bimbocore" band Brat.

Yes, they are. They have gone through many lead singers though.

Yeah just between singers at the moment. Erik Gronwall was fantastic. I saw them open for the Scorpions with him on vocals in Vegas three years ago. He left the band last year then Lizzie Hale did some tour dates with them last year . I believe they haven't played a show in almost a year.

Probably that

I'm a big fan of this though

I'm missing Alaska, Oklahoma, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, and Montana.

What’s the benefit of Club Mobay on arriva? I figured we would try to leave the airport to the resort ASAP.

Right, it's the other way around. Get it for departure only. For $35 you get expedited security screening and then all the booze and food you want in the lounge.
Seeing Exodus next weekend. Not a big Dukes fan but I'm stoked for Metal Fest again this year. Testament was just here Tuesday and I had free tickets but wasn't able to go.

safe off resort?

Yes. I've been to Jamaica 16 times and been to or through all 14 parishes. I've never stayed at a resort. I was in Treasure Beach for three weeks in February. Just like you wouldn't go wandering around certain neighborhoods in Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, etc the same is true for Jamaica. The fact that someone would be frightened to get a car from the resort in MoBay to the Mega Mart to get beer is completely absurd. Any honest driver or guard will tell you that the majority of violence is drugs and gangs and family feuds in areas that tourists never go. Look at the DOS travel advisory page and don't be a moron and you'll be fine.

I saw Milli Vanilli on the Club MTV Tour in 1989. It was them, Information Society, Was (Not Was), Paula Abdul, Tone Loc and Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. I believe all the acts lip synced except Was (Not Was). At the beginning of Milli Vanilli's set the tape either malfunctioned or they missed the cues and left the stage twice looking visibly irritated before everything matched up on third go around.

1st time since pitch by pitch tracking started in 1988
Good reminder early that there's a reason we get the big market cast off trash.

If anyone likes fiction with overt Catholic themes I highly recommend Jon Hassler. All his books are phenomenal. North of Hope is my favorite

Jon Hassler put Catholics’ complicated fear around Vatican II into his novels
Great grandparents on my dad's side died 43 and 18 years before I was born. Moms's side died 32 and 16 years before I was born. I only knew one of my grandparents and he died when I was 21. The other three died before I was born.
