Names of the songs are not showing.
These books seem dated with the lack of modern technology, but the 87th Precinct books by Ed McBain kept me rapt for years starting at about age 13. Good old fashioned gumshoe detective work by detectives and cops you get to know well, but the character development was organic and slow enough to not distract the reader.
I wouldn’t call them humorous, but there is sardonic cop humor here and there and it works.
