Poem from WWII
Posted by MiketheTiger69 on 4/14/11 at 10:26 am
As some of you may know, my mother recently passed away. While looking through things, I came across this poem written by my grandmother in 1943. I thought some of you, especially the vets on here, might find it interesting.
My apologies for the "N" word. Remember, it was written in 1943.
Thoughts of a Lonely Selectee
Upon a windswept plateau
And what a hell of a spot
Fighting the terrible dust storms
In a land that time forgot
Into the brush with a rifle
Into the ditch with a pick
Doing the work of a ****
And too damn tired to kick
Up with the cowboys and indians
Up where a man gets blue
Up near the top of a mountain
And a thousand miles from you
At night the wind keeps howling
It's more than a man can stand
Hell no, we're not convicts
We're defenders of the land
We are living for tomorrow
Only to see our gals
Hoping that when we return
They're not married to our pals
We are soldiers of Selective Service
Earning a meager pay
Guarding the Wall Street millions
For only a buck a day
No one knows we are living
And no one gives a damn
Back home we are soon forgotten
We are loaned to Uncle Sam
Only for year we can stand it
One year from our lives we'll miss
Boys, don't let the Army get you
And for God's sake, don't re-enlist
Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same!

The things peopel are bitching about the K Lady are nor nearly as rude, obnoxious and inconsiderate as a bunch of immature drunk assholes at a football game who, if they're sitting behind you, jump up on every play and spill their drinks down your back or if they're sitting in front of you, jump up on every play and block your view of the game.
Because of this, I no longer attend fb games, which is I'm sure, what some smart-arse will tell me to do. If you have a problem with the K Lady, stop going to the baseball games.

how the frick is that ignorant?
The difference between ignorance and stupidity is stupidity is knowing you don't know and not doing anything about it and ignorance is simply not knowing. He was ignorant because he didn't know. I didn't know either and I've been watching fb for 50 yrs. Thanks to all who have enlightened me.
re: "slow playing" a recruit

Sounds reasonable. And that's probably the best way and how I would handle it. And I think with Les' recent displays of integrity, I think it probably is how he does it as well. But I wonder how many other coaches do.
Sounds too like you may have had some experience.

"slow playing" a recruit
Posted by MiketheTiger69 on 1/26/11 at 12:19 pm
What does a coach tell a player when he is supposedly "slow playing" a recruit against a supposedly more sought after player?
This is supposedly the case of Mickey Johnson vs Tim Jernigan. I'm not saying that it's true, just citing it as a possible example. How does a coach handle that without making the "2nd" player feel inferior or less wanted?

They won't because I don't go to the fb games anymore. But if I did, if I wanted to go bad enough and it was something I truly enjoyed, I'd pay it if I could afford it. Nothing comes for free. Everything has a price. It's simply whether or not how valuable the object or experience is and whether or not you want to pay it.
As in this case, like everything else in life where it's a shared experince with others, when the costs are spread out among the many, the costs are smaller for everyone. But you can't make all these selfish and greedy individuals understand that. There's a lesson to be learned here for anyone paying attention.

Hey Reb, you been on here long enough to know that the majority of posters on here don't give a rats arse about LSU-OM history or any other history for that matter.
I can remember when OM students used to ride a special train down for the game. It used to unload over by the Old Alex Box and we'd go over and meet 'em and yell, Go to Hell Ole Miss. They'd throw whisky and beer bottles at us and we'd throw rocks at them.
I used to sell hot dogs and peanuts out in the stadium and I remember many of those games in the '60's and '70's. Always a great game and atmosphere. The young pups on here don't have any idea of what they're missing by not putting a stronger emphasis on it today.

All the bitchers and whiners remind me of a woman. She'll raise hell to get something and then when she gets it, she doesn't want it anymore.
The majority of them are probably the ones who gripe about taxes and people "getting something for nothing", "I know better how to spend my money than the gov't does", etc.
Well they've got their tax cuts and tax breaks but now they've got to pick up the slack for something they want and it costs them more and they don't like it and as usual, it's somebody else's fault. And also as usual, it's the ones who can least afford it that are the most affected. Anybody on here who believes that this is going to bother or affect the ones who can most afford to pay the costs, please come see me about that beautiful oceanfront property in Az and NM I've got for sale.
The old adage, "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!"
:rotflmao: at he whole damn thing!

Tigersd69, what do they say about a blindpig finding an acorn once in a while?
Who's your dad? That '69 team was one of my favorites and one of LSU's best of all time and the reason I have "69" in my user name.
It's also one of the reasons I hate ND.
I think if you ask him, he will probably tell you how much LM reminds us Old Farts of Coach Mac. Just like Mac, LSU, the players and the state are blessed to have LM as coach.

Everybody who went to the game expecting the Tigers to lose, sign in please. Admit you were expecting an arse-whipping and weren't excited at all about the prospect.

re: Murphy just doesn't have it
Posted by MiketheTiger69 on 11/7/10 at 10:24 am
For whatever reason, Murphy has never played the position he was best suited for-a receiver in the mold of Josh Reed. I don't know if it's because he never wanted to play anything but rb or the coaches refused to try him there but this is one case where a player was badly misused.

Going over the game film with the team is the place for those things, not in media interviews. It is totally Sabanesque-classless and always blame somebody else.
In this game he once again was burned for big plays in the secondary-his specialty. But it was that play he points to.

For heavens sake people, DON'TLEAVE EARLY!!!
Posted by MiketheTiger69 on 11/5/10 at 12:09 pm
With all the high profile recruits coming in for this game, it would be extremely digusting to see the stadium half empty by the 3r qtr. I don't care what the score is-DON'T LEAVE EARLY UNLESS IT'S AN EMERGENCY!

both Miles and Crowton are very well respected in most coaching circles...
I can't speak to Crowton but in an article in the Daily Oklahoman, and I'm going to quote it as best as I can remember, Mike Gundy said, "Les Miles brought something to OSU that we haven't had here in a long time-an attitude of toughness and never give up until the last whistle. The guy is a good coach."
As I pointed out previously, LSU did not have these problems in Les' first two years here with a different staff and better qb's. Why these guys, players and coaches together, can't seem to get productive, I don't know. But I don't hold Les solely responsible.
As I also stated earlier, I think Les really believed that with the addition of Gonzo and Ensminger, the qb's being in the system for 3-4 yrs. and an improved oline, the offense would be vastly improved. It may be to the point now where everybody is pressing and just making things worse.

I think Crowton's downfall is that he tries to do too much/ get too cute.
BINGO! Give that man a box of cookies! I don't think the man can relate what he sees in his head to what actually happens on the field.
Add in the other things noted here and you've got the recipe for the fallen cake that is our O.
