You'll be a lot happier without DTV.
We cut that off two years ago and have never watched as much sports as we do now.

re: Worst day of the year to have satellite tv

Screw satellite TV. I was a loyal DirecTV customer for years, and got nothing but misery. They are the sleaziest with the fine print, rate changes, channel dropping, contracts, and little extra fees.
When I finally had enough of calling and griping about rate hikes, I went to a $40 firestick and a $35 dollar antenna.
I mounted that sumbitch in the post that the satellite dish was in and used their cables (which are actually good quality) and get 44 over the air channels in a very rural area.
For football, I tried Sling last season. 'Twas okay, but this year they changed their packages, so I went with Playstation Vue. It's been great.
The kids get tons of movies or whatever they like with the antenna, crackle, Pluto TV, Amazon Prime (which I keep just for free shipping), etc etc.
My wife's watching so much football with me that she's moved her sewing setup in the den and is now making all kinds of sports-related stuff, as seen here:

Wanna Tiger pillow or oven mitt or something? She churned out a crapton of them during bowl season.
We've never watched more TV and more football in specific than the last two years.
Cut that cord, man. Quit paying for homeshopping channels and missing the game.
