I don’t know where you live, but in CA if you qualify for Medicaid, the exchange site points you that way rather than having h you continue with the exchange app.

I’ll have to get my sister to talk to her doctor about this. I used to carry sumatriptan on me at all times.
And. :daughter:

I get the aura without the migraine.
Typically her hemiplegics are numbness and slight one-sided paralysis with no headache. Her regular migraines she gets aura. Both this week she had aura, headache and numbness. But, her symptoms were less severe and didn’t last for long although they did cycle through a couple of times.
She likes to be in her own bed, with her woobie, with her room cool and dark and silent as possible. Mommy cuddles are also a must.
Today, once her Motrin kicked in and she got a couple of good hours of sleep, she was so much better. She got her appetite back, had a good dinner and went to bed early because she was tired.
We’re hoping that she either outgrows them (unlikely) or she is better able to manage them.
I love to take myself to dinner. I eat at my own pace. I don’t have to keep up any conversation. And I get uninterrupted reading time.
Enjoy the solitude.

I suffered from migraines and cluster headaches. Sometimes to the point that all I did was lay in bed, curled up crying and begging for relief.
She already has an appointment with her neuron who has been following her and saw her in the hospital both times.
UPDATE: so, now for the final update. We have reached the sassy portion of the day.
She called me requesting food. She is ready for me to cook the pork chops, rice and make cornbread muffins. But she needs a strawberry snacky snack while she’s waiting.
After requesting this, she told my sister “food bitch acquired!” And that is the difference in headache Nana and sassy pants Nana. I’m off to cook pork loin chops in olive oil and brown butter…as requested.
She does send her thanks for all the advice and the well wishes.

Hey Belle…we definitely think that puberty is the primary trigger.
She’s also quite high strung, has some OCD tendencies and is a perfectionist/type A. We try to keep her stress level down and work on the other stuff. But sometimes just gets too overstimulated, as she says. We try to really jump into action then, but occasionally it’s just too much for her.
She just woke up from a 2 hour nap. She said her headache is gone and she feels much better. She just wants to take it easy and snuggle with her mommy today. That we can do.

Hey Klark. That does help. It reminds us that we’re not alone. When we got migraines as a kid, even into adulthood, we just had to suck it up. Now, we know better and we’re doing our best with her.
Her room is the coolest in the house, it’s nice and quiet down here and we have her drapes pulled. We’ll be putting up black out drapes tomorrow.
She deals with lots of anxiety and OCD. We’re doing our best to keep her stress levels low and try to treat quickly when they happen.

The last time we had to take her to the ER, before Monday, they gave her some Toridol. Monday they gave her nausea meds, but she threw up anyway. It’s part of her process I think.
It’s headache, sleep, throw up, sleep, wake up sassy and ask for dinner.
Right now we are in the Motrin induced sleep stage. She’s all cuddled up on her mom and holding woobie. And got her little girl snore going on.

So, it’s been 20 minutes, but it looks like shes fallen asleep. We don’t want to wake her, so we’re going to see if she can sleep it off.
If not, we’ll deal with it then.
Thanks so much guys. I really appreciate it.

Right now she takes
Sertraline for OCD and she takes magnesium, B2 and hydroxyzine at night to help treat her migraines.
This is her first hemiplegic a in over a year. She gets a migraine about every 3 or 4 months.
Thanks 777. We’re going to get a genetic test when she sees her neuro to see if there is a genetic issue
Finally getting her to rest and maybe get some sleep. That’s always good for her.
Poor baby, what a rotten spring break.

Poor baby. The first time couple times she ended up inpatient for a couple of days to rule out anything more serious.
Now she has the “marching symptom” starts in her hand then her arm. Monday she her symptoms cycled thru about 3 times but they were less severe than before.
Today she has headache with aura (normal for her migraines), numb hand and her tongue went a little numb, but she says she’s starting to feel better.
All the women on both sides get migraines. So I’m afraid she may have a rough time if it.
Really hoping she can mostly grow out of it when puberty finishes.

Thank yall so much. We talked to nurse line. We’re giving it about 20 minutes and if she’s not better heading to the urgent care based at the main hospital. They have imaging and stuff there if we need it.

My niece, 11y 9m, has a history of hemiplegic migraines. She had one Monday and ended up in the ER. No admit. Today she is having migraine symptoms.
We already gave her a dose of Motrin about 9:30 PT. How soon before we can give a dowe if Tylenol.
She has a neuro appointment scheduled, but this is faster than calling her doc.
Thanks guys.

When my sister worked at a hospital in Florida, a Canadian man was brought to the ER having a heart attack. They were able to save him, he rehabbed and left doing well.
When they billed Canada for payment they denied payment stating he wasn’t gable for that level of service. In other words, they would have let him die rather than try to save him.

Nope. I can’t even parallel park my car on the first try. So, not even gonna try.

Do you live in L. A.?
It’s really not as simple as, just move closer to work. My sister has a 65 mile round trip commute. My BIL owns his own business and travels all over LA, OC, and even Ventura counties.
The house is free and clear with no mortgage. If they sold their house, they still wouldn’t be able to buy anything else mortgage free. Plus the increase in property taxes would be ridiculous.
My niece is homeschooled so school isn’t an issue. Public transportation out here is a freaking joke. It isn’t convenient and it isn’t reliable. If you take the train in from the suburbs, at least once a month trains don’t run due to “bodies on the tracks”.
It’s so much easier and more convenient to be mobile and commute than try to move closer to your job.
FYI, this is a Steve Hilton household. Can’t wait to vote for him.
My dad lived with my brother and SIL and she was his primary caregiver. Once his dementia progressed, he had hospice come in 2 or 3 times a week for help with showers and stuff.
At the very end, SIL gave my dad his med cocktail every 8 hours. She even got up in the middle of the night for his doses.
His last request was to die at home. We honored that request. SIL and bro are now divorced, but I will always be so grateful for how she took care of our dad.
