re: What's the floor for O this year?
Posted by geauxtigers34 on 2/12/21 at 1:12 pm
It depends on what other coaches are available and who wants to coach here. Someone like Fickle showing real interest could mean a change even after winning 9 games. With a soft schedule and almost everyone returning, O has to win at least 8 games. I think Woodward would have to make a move if this team finishes 6-6 or 7-5. 10 wins and competitive losses probably show that O made some good staff hires and has the program headed in the right direction.

re: Blueprint for Sustainability

I'm not sure where this myth about him being a great recruiter came from maybe in his USC days when Pete Carroll was running things. He finishes second too many times in head to head battles for elite athletes to be considered elite. LSU is a big-time gig with unbelievable resources, coach O should have a top 5 class every year, and then following a national title should easily be first or second if he is truly elite. Coach O is a good recruiter but he has way too many holes in this roster after 4 years on the job. Linebackers, O-line, secondary, even the D-line is way too thin at this stage for a defending national champion. If you want to know what an elite recruiter looks like how about the Ohio State coach, they haven't won jack in a long time, and yet their entire roster stacked. That is how you build sustainability, good recruiting year after year, and not hoping that next year will be the year that all the depth problems will be answered.

I can’t see Woodward giving O a chance to screw up another hire. This is the beginning of the end once a head coach has his freedom to hire anyone he wants taken away he is a lame duck coach.

Quote: "It's hard to say. Are the losses at least competitive? Who are the losses to? Is talent being wasted, not coached up?"
1. Biggest blowout loss to Auburn in program history, wait and see against Bama and Florida, but more than likely those will be historic blowouts as well so no.
2. Who are the losses to? pretty much everyone.
3. Talent being wasted? bigtime yes.
4. Definitely not being coached up but rather coached down.

Coach zero made his bed, now he has to sleep in it. Woodward needs to have a long talk with the entire coaching staff and let them know that they get a mulligan this year but next year needs to be a championship-contending team or they can hit the road. Coach zero needs to do some serious soul searching and decide if he wants to live off his one great year or be a real coach who hires the best assistants in the country, so far he hasn't done that.
Is the 2020 LSU team the worst defending national champion ever?
Posted by geauxtigers34 on 10/11/20 at 3:27 pm
After a bit of research, the worst defending champion was the University of Michigan's 1934 team which finished 1-7. If LSU finishes 1-9, I would have to say that this team would be a contender for the all-time worst defending national champion.

If Urban Meyer wants to coach at LSU, you hire him.

Football games are won on the line of scrimmage. You would have 19 and 20 year old kids going up against 26 to 32 year old grown men who do nothing but train for football year around. It would be a blood bath with the starting college quarterback knocked out before the end of the first quarter.

miles scored more points against Bama in one game than O has in three games.

re: Should Goodrich Have Had a Commit-able Offer In December?
Posted by geauxtigers34 on 2/8/18 at 8:41 pm
When SurtaIn didn’t commit in December then they should have gone all in on Goodrich period. If Surtain came around I would have dropped the kicker.
re: LSU goes “all in” on a recruit in position of need who takes last OV to Bama. Inexcusable!
Posted by geauxtigers34 on 2/7/18 at 10:14 pm
If Surtain was so in love with LSU he would have committed in December.. when he didn’t that should have been a red flag and more prioty given to Goodrich. Keep a spot open for him, but whatever you do have a backup plan. Orgeron whiffed big time on this and should be held accountable.

re: What makes some believe 2019 will be a great class if we can't even finish right now?

Raymond had been on this kid since the 9th grade and still couldn’t hold him. I find it hard to believe that 2019 is going to be that miracle class everyone thinks it will.

This reminds me of the 1978 season when Nebraska had to play Oklahoma again in the Orange bowl after beating them in the regular season. The only difference was coach Tom Osborne was visibly ticked off when he learned of the rematch, unlike Miles who said he welcomed the rematch.
