I have a 2015 115 ETEC it has been a great motor. The only knock I have is I have to order XD-100 oil online because no place around me carries it.
As much hate as the ETEC’s get the few people I know that have them have all been good motors. The first generation ETEC’s were junk, the newer ones were solid motors.

I keep trying Kartchner’s because of all the hype, but I find a lot of there stuff has way to much pepper. I like there boudin it has a good flavor, but some of the other stuff I’ve tried is border line inedible.

A little different subject, but same concept. All these stick pile blinds people keep building all over WMA’s these days. They cause nothing but bullshite. The majority of the time even if you get to the pond first they are going to come fight with you about it. It’s really not any different then somebody leaving a ladder stand up all season.

The fishing actually is pretty decent during the cold weather months.

I’m not from BR but after reviewing your list and the map, is there something I’m missing about why people like it there? Feel like I’d rather sit at the house.
It’s a lake, people enjoy doing things on the water just like any other lake. I will admit I do avoid it on the weekends for the most part though.

We go every now and then just to get out of the house and do something different. I can’t say my kids ever had a bad time.

Mexican gulf is top notch, Capt. Matt put us on some fish. We fished a day with solid 5 footers and it was a walk in the park for that Freeman.

I would get some rooster tails/ inline spinner type baits. There super easy to use and Should catch most of the fish you named.
As far as line goes your going to have to take water clarity into consideration. If you use braid your going to need a leader. You could use something like 10-12lb test for a good all purpose line.

I really want to check one of these boats out in person. It would be perfect for most of the fishing I do.
It seems like a good compromise between my bass boat and being able to do a little fall inshore fishing.

re: Is New Roads a decent place to live?

I live in New Roads and it’s certainly not the best place, but It’s not to bad either.
I don’t have to cross the river for work and like the Outdoors and peace and quite so it works for me.

I took my boat to ascension outboards for my last service. They did a good job.

Since I posted earlier not pertaining to the original topic. I’ll make my contribution.
If I was going to spend a week hunting and camping someplace in Louisiana. I would pick Tunica Hills WMA it ruff terrain, but a beautiful place.

The land isn't managed well at all.
The term “ managed “ can mean a lot of different things. It seems like most people in this thread refer to “ managed “ as in like a hunting club with restrictions on mostly antler size. Most people only know management like they see on realtree tv or something.

The funniest thing about this whole thread is the complaints. It seems like everybody wants some country club game preserve.
It should be managed as a healthy forest to benefit the whole ecosystem. Its for the enjoyment of the outdoors not just deer. If people want to hike, birdwatch, fish, camp and what ever else people want to do outdoors.
Public land is about the only place a person can small game hunt and run a bird dog these days. Also there is too much easy access on a lot of wma’s. The less pressured hard to reach areas the better. The best public spots I ever hunted involved having to winch in and out.

They said the WMAs in Louisiana are the worst maintained of any state they have been in by far.
This is most likely more of a money and staffing Issue. Some states have voted in different taxes and sources of revenue to support there public hunting areas. I believe Arkansas and Missouri did something along these lines.
We have a ton of Industry here in Louisiana. I know for some reason or another some of these company’s have to set land aside for mitigation. I wonder if they could work out a way to get some of the mitigation done on our public areas to improve habitat. I’m sure there are some federal stipulations that prevent this. lol
I would even support raising the WMA permit if it was earmarked for Improvements only.
The biggest thing I see most WMA’s need is better timber management and less gun days one some areas.

Because it’s best kept as is for everybody to use. Because not everybody’s opinion about land and the outdoors isn’t something they watched on buck masters. Nor is it some pie in the sky million dollar hunting property.
I personally hunt a lot of public land and haven’t come across many that I would consider terrible.

I don’t have any pics at the moment I’m at work. It’s a 15’ semi V with front casting deck open in the middle. It has a galvanized trailer with roller bunks and a Avery quick set blind frame. Like I said it could use some TLC as it’s just been sitting up for 5 years. No leaks $800 New Roads area. drunken_tiger@yahoo.com
