re: The pressure on the bass on Toledo Bend is insane...

When you see LDWF or TPWD spraying out there, they are spraying salvinia which gets tangled up in that hay grass (also a non native but that’s beside the point)
Hydrilla is non native but isn’t a target out there. Hay grass isn’t a target either
You don’t want salvinia taking over that place like it has about 10 lakes north of Toledo

Do you realize how much herbicide it would take to have killed all the hydrilla on Toledo bend?
We had 500 year floods back to back and then droughts That’s what killed the hydrilla

The biologists for LDWF know what they are doing. They make recommendations but never get listened to. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
As far as bass, many lakes need fish taken out of them but people throw them back. The slot limits are put in place for the sole reason that fish are expected to be taken out of the population.
Toledo is one of the few bodies of water that are truly affected by people taking bass out the population
I don’t agree it’s overfished. About 50 or more percent of Lacassine is inaccessible Can’t even get to the fish

A duck would starve to death in Toledo Not much duck food anymore except in a few highly pressured fishing areas

I have no qualms about keeping bass at all.
The catch and release folks will bash keeping a bass but will catch a bunch of fish on beds, throw them in the livewell for a few hours, take some hero pics, then release them 10 miles from where they were caught.

But we were up there bass fishing the first week of march and a guy was doing well on the shallow cypress trees which had me questioning why the hell we were bass fishing and not doing that
The water temp was 67 degrees that day so I would imagine the first wave has definitely spawned
Most the Darbonne perch fishermen I know are very tight lipped when they start spawning. If they tell you a report, you are already a week late

Yo-yo fishing is odd to me. You can catch white perch at night on yo-yos in January in 2 feet of water when the water temp is in the 40s but you won’t catch a fish there on a pole til mid march when the water temp is in the 60s I guess they roam shallow at night or something because the majority of them caught in January or February are still in the channels at 35 feet deep Never made sense to me

We caught a pile of them like that years ago. Had to make a long run to the Flemish Cap. Damn ice machine broke on us so had to cut the trip short

Josh jones is an elite scoper. Without FFS no one would know who he is. He is also very arrogant because he can flat out catch big fish
He would never enter the tournament scene because he probably makes more money being an arrogant Internet personality. People pay him $3k plus to go on guided trips and his YouTube videos probably make him more than he would make winning the Bassmasters Classic
He is just doing what he does. Getting clicks and growing his brand

The center of the new mitigation zone looks to be Darbonne NWR. Anyone know anything about where the deer was killed?

I know quite a few folks that hunt that area and I can guarantee they are not going to stop feeding

I have 4 LiTimes 12v 100 ah. Couldn’t be happier. Got them during Christmas in 2024 on flash sale. Think they were $120 each. I have the Ultrex 36v trolling motor and have ran. It all day in wind and have never seen it below 90 percent.
The Bluetooth is pretty cool Download the app scan the barcode and you should be good
Never heard anything bad about power queen either
The dealer wanted to sell me Ionics or Dakotas and they were ridiculously expensive.
Lead for cranking. Lithium everything else. Get you a Noco Genius onboard charger and you are good to go Baw

re: Turkey hunting question
Posted by Ron Cheramie on 3/1/26 at 11:25 am to oleyeller
I see turkeys in my neighbors pasture almost every time I come back from turkey hunting. For some reason I need to drive an hour away to feel like I am actually hunting. I could get permission to hunt those turkeys but I wouldn’t feel good about it. Again maybe that’s just me but I do the same with deer. Chances are your gobbler will have bred those hens by the time the season rolls around so technically it shouldn’t hurt the population assuming one of those hens have a successful nest
I have seen places go from a couple turkeys to zero turkeys though because they shot every single gobbler off the place so take that with a grain of salt

Hunt him! If there’s hens, they’ll be more gobblers. Plant some clover, chufa, WGF sorghum, Pearl millet or anything that will attract turkeys.
That’s just ambushing them. Not turkey hunting
