I don’t know what the contract says but if he’s owed $53 million right now and we pay it off in installments, he absolutely would get more than $53 million ultimately to compensate the time value of money.
I would have expected the $53 million to be paid out over time by the contract. In which case it makes sense to pay a discounted amount as a lump sum upfront.

The only issue is the cost. He was a bad hire but his buyout is literally 3x the roster cost, plus we have to pay a new coach. If we don’t have the money we are screwed.

I saw the rumor that we have something over on him but if that’s not true why the hell would he accept less than what he is owed?
Honestly, I hate him. He was decent in year 1 and 2.
He did replace House with Baker. He fricked up keeping Sloan and Davis. He fricked up not getting 2 or 3 better offensive lineman.
But his frickups aren’t worth $54 million.
We are stuck with that price so we need to be smarter.

I donate $10k a year. I’m not Todd Graves but I’m more than 95% of people willing to pay the buyout.
What I do know is this. There are limits to the money available for
LSU football. The donors are willing to spend $15-20 per year. And you want them to fund $54 millon now plus &15-20. The math isn’t mathing.
I’m pissed at BK and even more at SW. But burning this down is mega expensive.

Do you think Auburn will be relevant for the next 5 years? And Freeze’s buyout is less than half of BK’s.
Spending $54 million to get rid of a coach is ridiculous. We won’t be able to fill the roster with SEC talent.

We spent $18 million in NIL this season.
Kelly’s buyout is $54 million. 54/18=3
Take the anger out of this. I’d rather keep BK and Baker and get a new offensive staff and re-up the roster plus some offensive lineman studs.
It’s not like we’re going to win anything for a few years if we burn it down. We can always burn it down next year (for less than $54 million).

Name one aspect of our team that is NOT a problem.
Offensive line is the worst ever.
Receivers other than 14 and (at times) 1 and 6 are hot garbage.

You would never believe how arbitrary QB competitions are. A lot of it has to do with coach bias.
