re: Question About Bees

Posted by armsdealer on 3/27/26 at 7:15 pm to
bumble bees are the superior pollinator, it is what you want to see. I don't see why you would want honey bees around unless they were going into your hive and providing you honey.
If you say the right words on the phone a hospital will put you straight through to the OR phone, doesn't mean you should use it.

I have a directory doctor cell phone numbers, I wouldn't dare use it for personal reasons.

I'm just going to run new tubing. It'll be easy to do on this house. Pulling out an R22 system that's been excellent for 30+ years now and I hate to take out a running system, but man the light bill is STUPID in august. Like $500 stupid, for a 1700 sq ft house.

I feel your pain. Our unit is from the 90's, but it still keeps chugging. Waiting for the attic to be sprayed, cheaper than a A/C and should be more effective at reducing bills. I am prepared to replace it, but it just keeps going.
To be fair, when a large portion of your student population is just enrolled to get refund checks it is going to be hard to get decent passing rate.

To be fair, the schools are in on it. They love to load up someone with classes, get them grants and loans and take a large portion of the money and not provide any services.

Higher education would be way cheaper and way better if it wasn't subsidized how it is.

I have NO PROBLEM subsidizing those who get degrees in fields that are in demand and get degrees that add to our society, but subsidizing the lowest common denominator is a recipe for failure.

Pushing that boat with a 150 is fine, if you want to reverse in an Avid... they are just spinning tops. I even had a buddy who LIVES on the water (green jeans) pilot it before selling it to get a glass boat. He couldn't get it to behave either. It was fine, until you were in a crowded marina or the wind was up. If you had space you could get it anywhere, but if you have been to the launches down here... you know that isn't always an option.
So when I cast net off my dock in my back yard for bait or shrimp I should throw back any legal game fish. Got it.

Like any job.

Some people are better at it and want to be good and others don’t care enough to get better

They make less than a cashier, $15 an hour starting just became the norm and raises in hospitals are low to non existent.

They work early, work late, and deal with idiots day in and day out. Most of them draw better than nurses because they get more practice.

Honestly, Phlebotomist and CNA's are the worst paid positions / work ratio in a hospital, and probably compete with worst paid / work ratio for any job.
If your gut biome is wiped out it can really help turn you around quick... for weight loss?
A robovac going daily will cut down dust way better and force you and your family to keep the floors clear.

Room filters do work, but even in the lab we only run them when needed, not 24/7. I am sure some places run them 24/7 but usually the fans running them are power hungry. Now the ones we have a 24X48" HEPA filters as the main filter, the ones in your house will be tiny by comparison.
Little rock is just as shitty as BR. NW Arkansas is nicer than MS gulf coast, I don't do snow+mountains so I would prefer MS gulf coast. A summer in the Ozarks is amazing.
A costco cashier makes $75k a year in less time than it takes to get a college degree, and better benefits than the vast majority of any employer.
One of the major hospitals I go to has a row in the parking garage of handicap spaces, it was always filled with security guards without tags. Someone who really needed it complained, it was fixed... for a couple of days. Magically all of the able bodied security guards got handicap hang tags... people suck.

My heart rate averages right at between 95-105 beats per minute which is on the high range. I tried to take some meds to lower it, but it made me dizzy and did nothing for the heart rate.

Please exercise.
don't leave you can of tuna and Tylenol outside, that would attract the cat.

Seems like someone who spoke English, had any kind of personality, and had a little common sense would be way ahead of their peers in that field.

This applies to all science disciplines. I run a department at one of the biggest hospitals in the state and we have some smart, brilliant people but the amount of real world common sense is shockingly low among most. Communicating with the mostly from China residents can be a challenge for them. The vast majority of residents are from other countries and/or female. It is almost impossible for a white male to match with us, if they were lucky enough to get into med school in the first place.
it is amazing the little amount of science presented in this riveting discussion on glucagon like petptides.

Most people don't know what it is like to eat enough yet your body keeps asking for more because all the cells in your body are craving the glucose that is in your blood yet you don't have the proper hormone to move it from your blood stream into your cells. But sure, lets demonize those people because we are different than them.
WTF do you do to justify GS14?

Just looked up my field. A technical specialist only gets you to GS12 or GS13. A masters and above is required for GS9 and GS11 is PHD level.

Science is truly underappreciated, yet we figure out new ways to help doctors save people every day.

403b and 403b Roth

Posted by armsdealer on 12/19/25 at 8:29 pm
We have options to start contributing to a Roth this year. I was contributing 8% to my regular 403b in order to maximize matching, we cap out at 8% with the match and then "free" contributions. With the match I am getting 14% of my salary into my account. I just threw an extra 2% into the Roth for now, I could go more, its all going in a low cost vangaurd S&P500 index fund in a Fidelity account. I am just simply not interested in keeping up with it enough to try to beat the market, but I was wondering if this is an acceptable Roth vehicle or if I should get off my arse and get an Roth IRA or something similar.

I have my high risk investments in things I can more closely control and we are opening a new biotech lab I will have full control over so this is just safe money for me from my corporate job.

My plan for the Roth is first to access in early retirement, and then post 65 or whatever the retirement age is to supplement tax deferred payments with pre taxed payments to pay the lowest taxes possible over time.
Its the batshit crazy weather. I have ducklings in my yard this time of year, that ain't normal.
