re: Question about concrete thickness
Posted by reggo75 on 1/20/21 at 11:17 am
I did 4" concrete but added the fiber on my shop and I also added a 8'x20' wire panel on the roll up doors because those areas get the most vehicle traffic.

I don't know if you are married or not but you can put $6000/yr into a Roth IRA for both you and your wife. You pay fees on both accounts but it can be set up this way.

I'm an LSU fan and I will go ahead and say that I think Jones looks like an NFL QB based on my casual fan eye test.
The way he throws the ball is really pretty to watch. The arc that he puts on medium to long throws is perfect. Plenty of zip and yet soft enough to make the catches look easy.
Did having Smith, Harris, and Metchie help him?? Sure but he still made the throws. I like the way he plays and throws.
Disclaimer: I am not an NFL scout and I also did not watch all of his games.

I use the Grint app but it has a button in the top right for GPS. You don't have to use the GPS function to use the scorecard.
I have the $20 subscription because it contains a GHIN official handicap and basic stats like GIR, Putts, Fairways, hazards, etc.
There is an advanced version that keeps more stats like club selection.

The proper way to install them is with a drain pan with a drain line to your sewer system, so if it leaks it goes into the pan and then into your sewer system.
Most plumbers and builders do not run overflow systems to the sewer because there is no indication for the homeowner that a leak is occurring.
Most run them to a porch or common area outside so that the homeowner knows when they see water in that area that it is not normal and something needs to be checked.

A tankless doesn't heat the water as much?
If you look at the charts you will need to know the incoming water temperature and the unit capacity to heat that water to the desired temperature to maintain the output requirements of your household.
If the incoming water is 50° the 24kw unit might only put out 2.4 gpm of hot water. (enough for 1 shower) But if the incoming water is 70° that same 24kw unit would put out 4.5 gpm of hot water. (enough for 2 showers).
One poster above mentioned that you might need to adjust your temperature setting from Summer to Winter. I have found that to be the case at my home. When I originally set the dial it was during the summer when I installed everything. I just adjusted it again this month because I thought the water wasn't getting quite as hot as it used to.

Just an FYI...
The unit I purchased after doing some Consumer Reports and testimonial research is the Stiebel Eltron Tempra 24 Plus.
The settings go up to 140°.
I think it was around $700 new.
There were a few units rated higher but they were much more expensive. This one seemed like a solid unit that was affordable and met the needs of my household.
If you are trying to calculate based on size, remember the chart is rated on how many showers and sinks it will run at 1 time. You don't need to choose 1 so big because you have 3 showers in your house but how many you typically run at 1 time. My house has 2 showers but rarely do we run them both at the same time. I think the 24kw is big enough to handle 2 showers and 1 sink according to their chart. We haven't had any issues running out of hot water.

If you replace your tank heater with a tankless heater, there is no difference to speak of in delivery time
This is correct.
I just replaced my 50gal Tank water heater with an electric tankless because my tank was leaking.
I was considering upgrading to an 80gal or possibly buying 2 40 or 50 gallon because with a household of 6 people we sometimes ran out of hot water.
When I compared the cost of an 80gal or 2x 50gal the Electric Tankless made more sense. There was some upgrade costs for my electrical connections because the Unit I purchased required 2x 2P 50A breakers. I am an electrician so I did that work myself.
The unit runs a tad colder than my old tank heater. The water temp was 118° on my old tank setting. I have to run the tankless on 120° to get close to the same output.
I did add a drain pan under the unit and plumbed that into the drain from the old tank heater.
I have not serviced the unit yet to determine any pain in the arse associated with that.
So far I REALLY like the change. Never run out of hot water now. I haven't noticed any changes in my electric bill.
re: Golf course yardage, what’s average for “long”
Posted by reggo75 on 12/29/20 at 9:18 am
I would say anything over 6500 yds is considered "long" by the average weekend golfer.
It seems 7000 yd courses are the new minimum standard on the PGA Tour but it used to be considered long. You see a lot of courses playing in the 7200-7400 range on the PGA Tour.
I think Torrey Pines is one of the longer courses and it plays over 7600 yds.
Pebble Beach is still a classic design that typically plays about 6900-7000 yds and is considered a pretty short course these days.

Thank you for the responses...
As I was driving home yesterday my wife sent me a text and the dang watch vibrated and alerted me. I didn't change anything or do anything different. Maybe it's like the delayed typing in messages right now.

Apple Watch - Won't Vibrate on Texts
Posted by reggo75 on 12/28/20 at 12:17 pm
I see a couple of threads about Apple watches so I'll change the topic without derailing someone else's thread.
Got an Apple Watch Series 4 for Christmas.
I got everything set up but for some reason it will not alert, ring, or vibrate on text messages. It is receiving the messages on the watch but just not alerting me.
It works, rings, and vibrates fine on incoming calls.
I have combed the internet and tried several different things to figure it out but nothing has worked so far.
If you Google my issue I have probably tried the top 4-5 results.
The software is up to date.
Any ideas from the great minds of the tech board?

Qass Singh is probably almost as good as his dad at this point. I think he plays or used to play mini tour golf. And Vijay is no slouch for a senior member. He still competes on the regular Tour.
Qass was actually teeing off from the Pro Tees because of his age/handicap and Vijay was from the 1 up tee because of his age.

I love me some Travis Etienne because I watched him in high school but he doesn't deserve to be in this conversation this year.
19th in Yards
75th in Average
8th in TD
I know he is a senior so maybe this is a lifetime achievement nomination??
Javonte Williams from UNC should be in there somewhere.

Tell me about Poverty Point State Park. Good hiking in the area?
I'm not sure if there are any trails in Poverty Point. It is more of a fishing destination. I think they catch some HUGE white perch in there every year.
You can actually drive your boat up to the cabins.
It really is a beautiful place with excellent boat launches and cleaning stations.

ETA: It usually gets pretty full up this time of year because lots of people stay there when they hunt Tensas.
re: Cheap people: what one item do you make exceptions for?

I tend to spend money on things that should last a while or things I use every day. I don't usually buy the BEST MONEY CAN BUY but I also do not go cheap on these items. I'm middle to high end. Buy once, cry once.
Guns, golf clubs, camping gear, vehicles, phones, tools, etc.
I also agree with the poster that said Toilet Paper!

Are you hunting or doing outdoor things? Maybe look at the cabins at Lake Bruin State Park? Or if on the north side the cabins at Poverty Point State Park (Delhi) are awesome... they are set out about 20 yds from the bank on the water with a little boardwalk.

HERE is a good article about Mike Thomas.
He attends almost all of JT's tour events and is still his coach.
In the article dated June 2020 he is 60 years old and stated that he only played 2 rounds of golf last year.
I think he played pretty well for a rusty 60 year old.
