The argument can be made that MSFT would not have the market value is has today if Gates or any other single individual held a 45% stake. There would be a discount due to it being closely held. No they do not. If they accept an offer there will be a background section in the disclosures that discusses other potential offers in vague, general terms. If they reject an offer the attempted acquirer can go public in what is known as a hostile takeover. ...

Taxing credit unions wouldn’t be a drop in the bucket to state or federal receipts. It would just give the bank lobby one less thing to use to deflect from their own issues. I agree that Navy, PenFed, etc are very much a bank; other than the ownership structure....
