Thanks for the tips, I'll have him check out this thread, as well as looking at the greyskull thread.

High School Workout

Posted by volfromga on 2/5/20 at 7:07 am
My neighbor has a daughter who has started to show interest in lifting. She is going into high school next year and looking to join the cross country team as well as do pole vaulting.

He has started bringing her with him to the gym but doesn't know where the line is between pushing her too hard so she doesn't get hurt and what workouts will benefit her the most when it comes to the above sports.

Any suggestions for programs or workouts that could ease her into starting to work out?

Thanks

Used to use the standard stuff, ever since my wife found this, I have had no issue. Stuff actually smells pretty good.

Atlanta United's star striker Josef Martinez suffered an apparent arm injury in training on Wednesday.

The MLS club told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that it was too early to tell the extent of the problem, after the newspaper reported Martinez collided with a teammate near the end of the practice session.

I have the Jaybird X3's. Used them for half marathon training, I don't do much running these days, but I use them for 5 - 6 workouts (about an hour long each) before I recharge them with around 10 - 20% battery. I have two issues with the X3's.

It requires an adapter to charge, where the X2's, you flipped the end off one of the earpieces and plugged the microUSB directly to the headphones.

The second is when I do run, it seems that the cord seems to slide to one side, so I get a slight pull on the other side. This could probably be fixed if I used the shirt clip, but I don't, so there's that.

Have they always had this? And does it have to be a certain temp for the rule to go into effect? Also, how many per game?

Therefore, to assess the risk of playing, FIFA measures not only the air temperature but what is called the “Wet Bulb Globe Temperature” (WBGT). At FIFA matches, additional cooling breaks are considered when WBGT is above 32°C.

In other words, if the WGBT — which takes into account temperature, humidity, wind speed and sunlight — calculates the temperature as being higher than 89.6 degrees Fahrenheit, teams will be required to take a water break at the first natural stoppage after the 30th and 75th minutes in international play.

does anytime have squat and deadlift racks or all smith machines?

The Anytime's I've visited (NE GA / East TN), have squat racks and a few smith machines.

Like for example if you were to bench 225 on a smith machine what would that translate to on a regular bench?

The machine at my gym says resistance is 25 pounds. But, like others have said the free weights don't translate well with the smith machine

Anytime has a deal for those who have Blue Cross health insurance, where the dues are $25 per month. It is through a 3rd party arrangement with Fitness Your Way.

The deal isn't just for Anytime. I use the Healthways, "Fitness Your Way" program. I am currently a "member" of a Gold's, Anytime, LA Fitness, and Q4 Fitness. The program covers 9400 gyms across the country. There are certain Snap Gyms that participate as well, but none close enough by for me to justify signing up.

I would check with your insurance company to see if they offer these programs and sign up if you can. The cost is typically $25 for the first month, with a $25 enrollment fee. When you sign up, you are committing to a 3 month enrollment, after that, it's month to month. Usually, every other month, they run a special where they waive the enrollment fee.

Edit: Just looked, the Fitness and Beyond Health Club is in the program, which seems to be somewhat close to downtown Broussard

Honestly, in my opinion if you do it, do it 7 days a week. It's hard to adjust if you keep throwing in days with morning food.

I've never tried it, but how does milk fit in to a fasting "diet"? I'm okay with taking my protein with just water, but its easier to stomach with milk instead.

Save your joints if your really heavy, too

It's an old article, but still has some good info in it.

For two years, I ran 5-6 days a week for 2 - 6 miles a day. Training for two halfs along the way. I never had any knee problems. Only the odd calf strain and foot injury from adding to much mileage to quick. I was 30-32 at the time.

How Bad is Running for Your Knees?

Don't have any positive recommendations, but I can say to avoid the City Mini by Baby Jogger, I've taken it out on a run or two and it seems to make me lean forward to much, if I try and run vertical, my feet kick the basket underneath it. If you have a BuyBuyBaby near you, they are really flexible about trying things out, I would head in there to see what they have and what you like. Also, if you get those random Bed Bath and Beyond coupons in the mail, BuyBuyBaby is part of that company and they will accept the coupons.
Get a decent pair of running shoes.. visit a specialty store

Start slow, warm up for a few minutes, run for as long as you can, walk until you catch your breath, then run some more. Set your goals as something achievable.

When I started, it was run a mile non-stop, I did the run walk thing until I could go a mile. Once I hit the mile, I up'd it to 2 miles, then continued from there.

Lost 40 pounds, ran 2 Half Marathons, then moved my "addiction" to weight lifting. Been hitting the gym pretty hard for a year now.

Check out Facebook. I've caught a few of the games there, although the "announcers" are horrid. They banter about anything that pops into their heads.

Has a couple of good series, really enjoyed watching the Advanced Training Techniques. Broke out each muscle group in to two or three videos. The first just an intro into how the muscle works in the "chain", what each muscle does, then the second video is just a complete workout, going through each exercise.

The extra day rest, plus them playing an extra 30 minutes is going to help out quite a bit as well.
