Small world. Family friend was a NWA captain on a DC-9 at MSY that day. He was originally given takeoff clearance and declined it based on the weather. Decided to wait. He recalled Pan Am quickly said they would accept the clearance.

Sadly, Jerry lost a battle with Leukemia in 2020 but alot of people owed their lives to his judgement and decision making on that day.

One item to note is this seems to be a case of an activist judge pushing this vs at the state level. Sounds all too familiar here. This could be Colorado or California
