re: expectations for saturday night vs MSU
Posted by NoNameTiger on 9/12/16 at 6:44 pm
I expect what we saw the first 2 weeks.
A real struggle offensively with terrible play calling limited passing plays, basically the exact opposite of what we saw in the second quarter Saturday night.
Defense will be really good but not dominant. Unlike the Wisconsin game, I do think we have the talent at home to eek out a close win. We get a defensive or special teams score and win 17-13.

I guess in theory he could win back my support.
Modernizing the offense, getting rid of Cam and letting the new OC have complete control of offense, firing BDP and winning the games we have been losing for the last few years would be a nice start.
Unfortunately I do not believe he is capable of doing those things.

I don't really care about this and dont necessarily think it means he is a bad apple.
After the boos and getting benched in front on 80k people and a national TV audience, I can give him a pass for just wanting to get off the field. Had to be a rough night for him and he otherwise seems to be a good kid.

If we are 6-1 going into ole miss I would feel that we are 1 game worse that we SHOULD have been at that point.

The playbook did look different once Etling came in.....why?
For 1 quarter.

We know that (if Etling is actually going to be the starter) Miles will spend the entire week coaching him to not lose the game rather than coaching him to win it.

Anthony Jennings came off the bench in 2013 and looked all world...then got first team coaching from Les and Cam.
Brandon Harris came off the bench in 2014 and looked all world...then got first team coaching from Les and Cam. He has steadily regressed ever since.
I think with a week to prepare, Etling can be better than he looked in the second half on Saturday. But I worry that Les and Cam will screw his head up. Maybe his development at Purdue, similar to ZM developing elsewhere, can make him immune to the QB killing effects of Les and Cam.

My contention was only with the statement that Miles should have went to Etling sooner if he ends up winning 10 games.
Fine. I agree with the contention that if Etling wins 10 games it really isn't fair to say Miles should have gone to him sooner.
But you can make it without claiming that Harris won more games than he actually did.

That realistically he is a 10 win QB since we all know what the outcome of that game would have been.
Realistically he won 9 games that is it.
I understand that we all know LSU would have beaten McNeese. But we don't know that he would not have looked like AJ did against NM State and gotten benched. We don't know that he would not have gotten injured and how that may or may not have affected the rest of the season.
He won 9 games last year. It is not like I am trying to take away games that he did actually win, but no matter how you slice it, HE DID NOT WIN 10 GAMES.

I have already stated that numerous times.
Yet you continue to try and make the point that he actually won 10?

do you really not understand his point? Jesus
His point in claiming that Harris won a game that was not played?
It is a stupid argument to make and an even stupider one to defend.

Just admit it. Harris won 9 games last year not 10.

And the fact is, whether y'all want to admit it or not, is that Harris was a 10 win QB last year without the game cancellation.
And the fact is, weather you want to admit it or not, that the game WAS cancelled and BH DID NOT WIN IT and ONLY WON 9 GAMES.
Hell, lets jsut call him a 13 game winner while we are at it. I mean, if we had not lost 3 in a row in November, we would have won them.
frick, if we had played in the nantional champioship game, he might have won that too.
Look everybody, Harris won 15 games last year.

But in the context of my statement, Harris is a 10 game winning QB.
I don't really know why you are arguing this. There is no context in which Harris won 10 games last year. He won 9. That's it.
We did not play McNesse, and no matter how sure we all are that we would have won easily, the fact is the game was cancelled and no one gets credit for winning a game that was not played.

But continue to be disingenuous if you want
Really, claiming that he won 10 games last year is disigenuous when it is an absolute fact that he did not.

I still won't believe Miles will let Etling start until I see him under center on the first drive of the game.

BH and LSU won 9 games last year. Not 10. That is an indisputable fact.

The offensive philosophy has changed Why do people keep saying that. Did you think we were gonna go from pro style to a spread wide open offense? If so youre a dumbass. We threw the ball 28 times game 1. That's a change.
No it isn't.
It is not the number of pass attempts. It is the play calls, play selection, running rudimentary pass plays that rarely feature more than 2 WRs.
It is the lack of creativity and the lack of any attempt to exploit mismatches. Most of the pass plays are no more complicated than play action deep post and hope the WR can make a play.
That is not how to run an effective passing game in 2016. I see more complicated passing systems in junior high games.

Right, and I even always thought Pentangelli figured that out in the end. It's been a while since Ive seen it, but something about the conversation he and Tom had before he killed himself, he realized he had been used by Roth.
