Seems like it would be pretty easy, especially bag in the day
sitting at MSY right now waiting to get on a plane to Denver. From there we are driving out to Nebraska to hunt some river/creek bottoms and ag fields. We are going self guided $100 a bird on some farmers private land. I have never killed a turkey and hopefully we can get on one, I need to see what all the fuss is about. Will post results!

Update!

1st morning sitting right by the roost in a winter wheat field. Thunder chickens are HAMMERING about 80 yards away on the limb. Four hens and two jakes pitch down and come check us out. As they pass by the two long beards of the roost come in on a string full strut and gobbling. When they get to the jake decoy they start beating his butt like you'd see on the outdoor channel. Easy a top 5 outdoor experience for me. Was fortunate enough to take one of the gobblers that morning, a 18 pounder with a 9.25 inch beard and 1 inch spurs on each leg. Needless to say, im now hooked and can't wait to try to get one in the bayou state next year :nana: pic
Come on, Tony, come on... running after hitting hole-in-one and his ankle popped out. looked terrible but he seems okay.

Ducks in Venice

Fishing there this past weekend saw a couple hundred teal as well as big ducks. Seems really late to be seeing them this far to the south but always awesome to watch them

I know the conditions will suck, but you have to go to know

Another option would be to stay in the house boat and trailer to yellow cotton

is there any place to launch other than Venice marina that affords better access to Yellow Cotton?

Venice March 23-25

A good buddy of mine invited us down to his house boat in Venice marina to fish that weekend. I know the river is high and we really do not have large enough boats or enough knowledge of the area to try to get after specks, especially if its windy. That being said, i was wondering the OB's advice on catching Reds and maybe even a few bass. I was thinking finding drains with shrimp tipped plastics (cork and bottom) would be the ticket for reds and flipping plastic against the canes might get a few bass bites. Would it be necessary to run around the fringe bays to catch reds, or should we stick to the inside (wagon wheel area.) Any knowledge you maybe able to pass down about fishing this time of year down there would be greatly appreciated.
DUMB thread, but thumbs UP for your avatar picture. Few understand its significance...
