re: Would like to get a heart rate tracker

Polar chest strap is pretty standard device. Pairs via Bluetooth and more accurate than probably any watch. I have coros apex pro 2. Great watch but found HR monitor to be maybe 5-10% higher than polar. Either option is good enough for your needs

What was the elevation gain for the mile. 30 min pace is a crawl unless you’re at 25%+ incline. If it’s 25% incline I’d say the 150 is within +\- 10%
If incline was 10% range then the 150 might be on the high side especially at 30 min pace

I’m not saying jump to something like superblast with 40+mm but maybe something like Altra flow experience with 4 drop and 30mm heel stack.

Coros makes a good watch. I have apex pro 2. Battery lasts forever and I find the gps to be very accurate. Going on 2.5 yrs and no sign that it’s wearing down.

Being that stack and drop are technically independent of each other what’s the aversion to higher stack if still 0-4 drop?

Funny 52 week low is $0.41 but you got a 7% discount.

Spring in Montana says hold my beer. Road may not open as scheduled but it was 80 degrees here Saturday so I’m sure that helped

That could be part of his condition based on years of running. He could have also eaten 500 cal breakfast pre run and easily had enough fuel to burn. In general it’s not a one size fits all type of thing.

Bro when Zuck calls you answer.
I think you’re shorting yourself. Google search “ The capacity of your body to store muscle and liver glycogen, however, is limited to approximately 1,800 to 2,000 calories worth of energy, or enough fuel for 90 to 120 minutes of continuous, vigorous activity.”
120hr isn’t vigorous. Was his fueling optimized probably not but now the importance Refueling after went up

Only part that seems insane is the heart rate. conditioning over time.
SO ran Gorge 100k yesterday. 13.5hrs 11k’ gain. Hasn’t ran an ultra in 2 yrs. Was trained for result she got but good mental prep for Crazy Mt 100 late July. She’s got work to do to get ready. Hopefully we can get in the mountains soon. Need more snow to melt. Above 7k elevation still post hole knee deep

Several gel brands have caffeine with only 20-40 mlg so you could start with those being low dose vs straight caffeine pill or 5hr energy.
Daytona isnt terrible. It can be fast if the sun doesn’t blast you and It’s easy to manage if you don’t have crew with aid stations and number of gas stations you pass along the way. I probably wouldn’t run it again but I would say it has its purpose especially for newer runners.

No she’ll just curl up in a ball on the side of the trail. She’s good at napping wherever when it hits. Massenutten 100 on top of the ridge line she laid down and was out. I sat on a tree stump. Few runners passed and made snarky comments but we got last running them down and her taking 3rd female.
Never heard of caffeine nap but guess it could work. Caffeine is another individual thing can work wonders or can make you puke if High temps and empty stomach.
We’ve ran Daytona and having to nap at 24rs and wake up to the sun and keep going sounds miserable.

Sleep during 100 milers is very individual based. If you’re typically going sub 24 and more so around the 20hr mark and under you’re not sleeping. However some people struggle once you hit that 1-2am mark bc that’s just normal for your body to ask why are we awake. My SO has napped during many races around that 2am mark. I’m usually pacing her at that point and will only let her sleep 10-15 minutes and it makes a world of difference for her. I took a couple naps during Badwater. The first one I woke up and felt great after that the returns greatly diminished and probably made it worse as I got stiff. Other reason people will nap is when they stomach turns a nap actually lets your system shut off and in a way reset. You also have to be good at napping. Sitting there and not being able to fall asleep might do more harm than good had you just kept walking. In the end there no right or wrong its just figuring out what gets the best out of you.

?? I mentioned the elapsed time bc I noticed at 25 min gap on a 10 miler and 45 min on a 20 miler. These are in the past 2 weeks or so. Could be outliers but I can do a lot of recovery in 25 minutes.

Wasn’t comparing 5 miles to phone call breaks. It was a joke. Running 13 at pace without stopping I think is pretty damn good reality check. Life happens but some of his runs have 20+ minute stoppage time.

I wouldn’t bother with 18 or 20. You know you can run 26. I’d run 15. 1 up, 13 @ goal pace, and 1 down or more if you want extra. Hopefully not interrupted with IT phone calls. The pace miles here is way better indicator than 5 on a random run.
Different subject. Adidas EVO SL. I got 120 miles on them. It’s a solid comfortable shoe that handles any pace. Complaint is the tongue. It’s not gusseted and has weird pad near the top that the laces hit when tied.

re: Runners- what watches are you using?
Posted by ks_nola on 3/30/25 at 4:15 pm
All depends on what you really want to use the watch for. Coros is newer to the game but makes good product. Apex pro if you need 20+ hours of accurate tracking or pa e 3 for more standard runs. Both will last 2-3 weeks with daily runs.

Baddest
You’re putting in good work so not sure why you think you’ll crash but I gotta ask why do many of your runs on strava have large time differences b/w moving and elapsed? Revenge of the bean burritos, helping old lady cross the street, mauled by a litter of puppies?

Is there really a designated course? Thought you just had to find your way to each book location or something in a loop-ish fashion.

you gonna get a lot of varying opinions on how many / often you should use a gel. Some people stick with every 45 min some stick to specific calorie or carbs per hour. too much and its probably gonna come back up not enough and you may bonk. unless its ultra distance i'm just gonna use gel. preferred brand currently is hammer and then honey stinger. ANything under 2 hours I not using anything except maybe water and that will be temp dependent. Marathon distance I probably take 3 maybe a 4th.
