Do you have to have a catcher?

Posted by Beer Can Stan on 7/24/20 at 5:09 pm
What is stopping teams from shifting the catcher into the outfield with nobody on base and fewer than two strikes? Would allow them to cover much more ground with an additional outfielder. Obviously with two strikes you would need a catcher to prevent base runners reaching on a dropped third strike.

I could see more bunts going for hits but you could shift up the corner infielders and probably be okay, especially with slower hitters. Would be bad for umpires but they wear padding and that shouldn’t be the fielding team’s problem anyway.

And you know I don’t mean frick. The students better show up and embarrass that man on national television.

Every free throw. Every official timeout. Every bad call. Pregame announcements. If you’re a student and you’re reading this, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Save STTDJ for when (not if) the band plays neck.

Get this thread a sticky.
Heard from a buddy who owns a basketball he made the trip to college station with the intent to play.

That was almost a month ago, no word on tonight.

So Friday night our family walks into Lit Pizza on Burbank and we see Tramont sitting outside with some lady friends just eating and hanging out for about an hour.

Weird, because I ran into Tremont on that same night at Red Zepplin. Why would one kid be at two pizza places in one night? Why the cover up? Was he sick from eating so much pizza? Are there drink specials at either local pizza place or did he head to Fred’s afterwards? Did he have a concussion and was aimlessly wandering the streets in search of another slice? Or maybe his dad brought him to several pizza establishments after a tough day at practice. Is the father at fault for this situation? What about Pastime, has anyone spotted Waters in that area, probably sometime Friday evening?

Somebody with their Name on a building at LSU gave me that information. That is all I am saying.

Pete Maravich needs to shut up and dribble.
Del Peiro was 7th on the team in minutes played and put up a whopping 4 points and 3 boards in his best season. Even if you determined who the “better players” were by dividing the team in half, he was not one of the better players.

Eddie Ludwig shot 34 threes in 100 games at LSU. His career 3pt % was 20. He was by no means a sharpshooter.

This post is the equivalent of saying Trindon Holliday was a great pass rusher and Russell Shepard was our starting quarterback. Couldn’t be further from the truth.

I was so excited after hearing we made the tourney in '15, only to be crushed after that blown lead against NC State.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more dissappointed at a loss than that one. Those free throws down the stretch were killers. We had that game in our hands, but if we win that Johnny Jones is probably still our coach so it was worth it in a strange way.

Yes, but you’re assuming Mays gets a rookie deal from a team from day 1. He could just as easily have to work his way up through the G League with no guarantees after being brought in as an UDFA for camps.

Med school is a huge investment of time and money and that’s not including what it takes to get in. His GPA looks nice but he recently switched from biology to kinesiology, which makes it more difficult to get in. Not to mention we don’t know his science GPA which matters much more than overall (probably inflated due to easy classes/academic advantages for athletes). Also, at some point he’s gotta take and do well on the MCAT, which typically would overlap with the season.

This isn’t to say he can’t or won’t get in, and his experience as a high level college athlete will certainly look very good on an application. It’s just to say that med school isn’t gonna be some easy ride, it’s a huge life decision and I’d imagine if he gets a shot at the NBA he’d certainly play that out first.

running man against LSU is not the best strategy.

While it seems like we struggle significantly with some zone defenses, other coaches must not feel that way. We haven’t faced too much zone this year and Kentucky, who is the best defense in the league running almost entirely man, isn’t going to scrap what they do and play zone against us. Might not be a bad idea, but it won’t happen.

YIKES, it must be tough to have to read a few sentences about basketball. Not sure what cuts deeper, the outdated insults your lobbing or you’re complete disregard for the rules of grammar.

You think this thread is about football? I started a thread that people thought was about football, then reminded them that it’s basketball season. The sheer number of downvotes tells me it’s working. Keep playing checkers, I’m playing chess with the Rant.

Jump shooting, we have got to hit open shots to stay in the game. Can’t afford to fall behind big again.

Jesus people, we’re playing Kentucky tonight. If you clicked this thread, you need to take the bag off your head and tune in to ESPN tonight at 6 PM.

ITS GAMEDAY! This is the biggest conference game we’ve played in in a long time. We get a free shot at Big Blue.

So quit worrying about next year, pull up a couch, and get your head in the game. The bandwagon is open, grab a seat and bring your appetite cause we fixin to eat in Rupp tonight. This is not a drill.

And WE are talking about which COLLEGE basketball player is best for THIS college team. The NBA and college basketball are two different games

Is Waters play style a better fit on this team? Probably, but in this instance the talent just outweighs the play style, especially in college. The college game is not nearly as reliant on jump shooting as the pro game.
