One factor that plays into this stat is margin of victory. How many games in Saban's time at Bama has Bama been so far ahead that they didn't really try to score TDs? For example, I can think of many times late in games when Bama has been ahead by 4 or 5 TDs and had the ball 3rd and goal from the 6 or better, and Bama just runs a simple dive play because Saban is not concerned about scoring TDs. Or times when Saban goes for it on 4th and goal just to run more clock instead of kicking a FG. A third factor; how many times has the second or even third team been in the game late and added to the poor record inside the 20. I'm not saying that Bama has not struggled with this aspect of the game, but there are other factors that play into it. Just something to consider.
