re: Big 10 announces 1910 scheduling plan...eliminates all FCS teams from future ga

There should be a few exceptions. For example Iowa has a competitive series going with instate Northern Iowa who is an FCS power. UNI is nearly as popular as the big schools in state and has an athletic department that's actually nationally competitive in the other 2 big sports in the state, wrestling and basketball.

I think limit it to one, maybe an instate team if you can help it. These games are huge sources of revenue for these schools. Non-Power 5 teams should still be able to schedule multiple

Sounds like a liability if you ever have a play go more than 5 yards downfield

Because Italians are the least white people in Western Europe.

Yes, it won't take them long to jump to #1
re: Question about teen daughter keeping computer in her room at night
Posted by Magic City Rambler on 7/30/15 at 6:58 pm
Honestly, you're smart.
1) she needs to sleep and electronics get you stimulated and mess up your sleep cycle
2) maybe she is just doing innocent stuff, but more often than not young people on electronics late at night all alone are up to no good. I'm 10 years older than your daughter and I was only up to no good on the computer at night at her age, and in 2005 I didn't have a webcam or a smart phone with easy access to dangerous apps that are havens for predators and bullies like Whisper and Kik.
Read this article, show it to your daughter. It's about a girl her age here in Alabama that committed suicide a couple months ago after being bullied over apps and her computer she was using in her room by herself late at night. Innocent girl, nobody had any idea.

She might freak out on you and say that's not her, but at least it'll show her the dangers and why you're concerned.

My childhood church's playground had a couple of these with off road tires. They also had a pile of monster truck tires you could climb on and get in like a fort. Anytime it would rain there would be water inside the tires for days, those things are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

re: Bham/Nashville folks: traveling from bham to Nashville...
Posted by Magic City Rambler on 7/30/15 at 1:11 am
1-65...
Greyhound from Nashville to B'ham and back would be cheap, and the greyhound station in B'ham is right downtown.
I've traveled Greyhound probably 10 times before and there's few normal/non-trashy people but 3 hours is nothing, the ride between Birmingham and Nashville is nothing. You will want to shower and wash your clothes when you get off though.

re: How quickly would it take Saban to win a national championship at your school?
Posted by Magic City Rambler on 7/30/15 at 12:54 am
Arkansas - Never. Coaching graveyard. They've had multiple NC coaches that could only manage to be mediocre there
Auburn - this year
Florida - 2 years. Just needs to recruit offensive skill players
Georgia - this year
Kentucky - 4 years to get them to a BCS level bowl, even Bear couldn't win one there
LSU - 3 years. Even Saban couldn't win it all with that QB situation
Ole Miss - 4 years
Mississippi State - I don't see it. He could likely have them as a 10 win caliber team starting this year, but I can't ever see MSU getting over the hump.
Missouri - 4 years. He could lock down that state and get the players that Meyer is getting at OSU now
South Carolina - 4 years
Tennessee - 2016 or 2017
Texas A&M - 3-4 years, if ever. I don't see the defensive talent currently on the roster. Once again, not even Bear could win one there so I'm not sure anybody ever will... only Texas team in the SEC and nobody knowing how they will ultimately fare here is the only reason I'm considering it..
Vanderbilt - never. But in 4-5 years he could turn Vandy into the Stanford of the South and having them in BCS caliber bowls and maybe even make the SECCG.

He beat 6 different teams in 3 years as starter? Prolific indeed...
re: Auburn & Bama Fans: Question regarding the return of UAB football
Posted by Magic City Rambler on 7/30/15 at 12:10 am
I would love to see UAB play either Bama or Auburn. I think it would be a great opportunity for either one to play in Birmingham, but there is nowhere in Birmingham for either to play. Legion Field is a dump that isn't even worthy of UAB, and it only holds 70k now that the upper decks are gone.
Maybe in 20 years if Birmingham can actually pull that dome stadium out of it's arse or even just replace Legion Field. Maybe by then UAB will be more established as a mid major football program too.
