When there real big it's either at shutdown or start up when they are actually using the flare stack to combust gas and not just as pressure release valve

That's not good advice. Place your hand firmly around the neck under the cap and pry up with something flat using your fingers as a cantilever and pop the top off that way you don't have to worry about foam and spilling.
It's a shame that it's funny to laugh at peoples mistakes really.
I'm sure it was Robert Griffen saying hey Tom tell me how to do this and Tom saying nah man figure out yourself ha ha ha. No story here
