Mystery finally solved.
So, after 5 trips to and from the store and replacing different parts. It turns out that the leak was coming from the connection where the stopper lever goes into the tail piece. Inside of that connection on the lever there is a small round ball that rotates in a socket to move the drain stopper up and down.
That round ball had pretty much disintegrated letting water leak out and drip down the tailpiece. That would fill the area around the fitting at the bottom of the tail piece and eventually start dripping onto the floor of the cabinet.
Since that fitting is on the back side of the tail piece it's not easily visible so, it's easy to miss.
Went to Ace and got the whole tail piece replacement kit. Replaced the tail piece and associated parts including the stopper level. Water ran for 20 minutes without a drip.
Lesson learned but, I hope I never have to do this again.

If that’s the case, they did a great job making Katrina Law’s patch look exactly like I’d expect it to look.

Thanks for the warning. Ashur is sort of the Little Finger of this show. He's mixed up in pretty much every plot. Despicable character but, he plays a big part in most everything.

Well, I've done all I can do. Replaced the washers and the fittings where the leak is occurring. Same issue, just a glass of water poured into the sink backs up to the connections on the tail piece and leaks into the bucket i have in place.. Makes no sense, doesn't look like enough water to even reach where the pipes meet the wall.

This is a really good show.
Just finished the first season. I know it's an old show but, please don't spoil it for me.
I've never seen the Kirk Douglass movie. But, I'm enjoying seeing how Spartacus came to be.
Some of the blood spatter is kind of weird but it's still a fun show. I enjoyed a lot of the fighting scenes.
The lies, deception and greed rival GOT.
I know there are other series. House of Ashur. Gods of the Arena, Vengeance Unleashed. hoping to get those at some point.
Damn! This show has more nudity than even GOT.
Naked women walking around constantly. Even the stands in the arena are full of topless women.
Full frontal nudity galore. shite, even in the first episode the blonde chick with the nice rack has a full frontal scene.
Full frontal of both male and female, for those who are into that.
For the most part, I don't recognize a lot of the actors. But, I noticed a few familiar faces.
Katrina Law who was in Hawaii 5-0 and currently stars in NCIS. Topless many times. Even has a few full frontal scenes.
Jet black hair ( my favorite), great rack and a nicely groomed black patch.
Lucy Lawless of Xena fame even has her glorious rack on display several times.

Well, the leak was occurring before I touched it. My next step is going to be replacing the washers and the fittings.

So, quick update.
I removed the p-trap, what I think is called the rail piece and also the pvc that connects to the pipe in the wall.
Ran a 15ft auger down the piped, didn't hit any clogs, auger came back clean.
So, I decided to work backwards a piece at a time. Inserted the pvc going to the wall and poured a pitcher of water down it, no problem.
Added the p-trap, did the same thing, no problem. Connected the p-trap and tail piece to the sink and just pouring a large glass of water down the drain causes water to back up through the 2 fittings. the one connecting the tail piece to the p-trap and the one connecting it to the sink.
My last guess is that the washers in those 2 fittings are bad and allowing water to back up through them?

Best to remove the p trap. Clean that and snake the line a little ways. It’s easy.
Thanks. Sounds like I have an evening project.

Only if there is a blockage that allows the water to back up higher than the P-trap.
Makes sense. I guess the 2 are unrelated but, the timing is a bis suspicious.

Follow-up on the smart thermostat thing.
Apparently the "C-wire" is not connected on our current thermostat.
There is an available blue wire but, honestly I have no idea where the other end of those wires is located. Seems like something I may need to leave to the pros.

A Question about AC Drain Connected to House Plumbing
Posted by MorbidTheClown on 5/27/26 at 1:53 pm
After this last bout with the drip pan filling up constantly, we had an AC tech come out and work on it. He showed me where the drain from the AC is connected to the house plumbing. He cleaned the AC drain and pumped the water from the pan into the drain.
I'm not 100% sure it's related but the AC drains into the pipe that leads to one of the bathrooms. I noticed yesterday that the sink in that bathroom leaks water from above the p trap. Is it even possible to snake that drain? Or do we need to remove the p trap to be able to do this?
ETA: The drip pan no longer fills up. But, I'm wondering if it's just a matter of time before enough water drains from the ac to start backing up in to the ac.
